THIS IS THE PLACE! After researching numerous hotels and visting several -- as well as staying in one that was vastly inferior -- I arrived here to find a truly idyllic property at the end of the long road past the fishing village of Guet N'dar. The staff all warmly greeted me, and it was immediately clear this is one of those charming places worth a special visit.
The swimming pool is fantastic, surrounded by coconut palms, several types of bougainvillea, and with tropical birds and butterflies passing by. I had the pool entirely to myself for hours!
The beach also appears to be the cleanest of all the properties I viewed -- not least as it is further away from settlements and fishing boats. St-Louis does have serious waste disposal issues, and it makes sense to stay further afield at a place like this. (In contrast at the other place I stayed you are literally surrounded by rubbish, and that's an unfortunate reality.)
I looked at three different types of rooms -- all very nice -- and ultimately settled on a bungalow for some additional space.
The bar area is quite social, and the dining room as well as outdoor dining areas both very nice. Also there is a nearby mobile phone tower so you get excellent reception. Meals were enjoyable, simple and delicious.
I also deeply appreciate how kind and thoughtful the staff were to assist me with my onward journey to Mauritania, given that crossing the border at Diama can be complicated for solo travellers. (In contrast, I had gone to a well-known travel agency the prior day to politely inquire, and they were unhelpful so I walked out. And with that they lost my potential booking for sightseeing.)
In conclusion, while St-Louis has its charms it makes sense to stay further outside such as here to avoid the pollution and commotion. You can easily get here in a taxi from St-Louis and for the more adventurous take public bus 3 from the peninsula bridge for just CFA 100 to the final stop and then walk 7 minutes down the road.
This hotel is an excellent value and a true gem. Overall the property is in great condition and the attentive friendly service was memorable. The negative reviews I read here were absurd, and obviously by people who were upset that they cannot simply go use the swimming pool for free. Such is life....

Read moreThe Oasis in Saint Louis is a pretty hotel on the hydrobase, about 4km from the center of Saint Louis. You can walk to town (on the beach or on a road along the river) or take a cheap clando (communal taxi) for about 120 CFA (that's about 25 US cents!). The rooms are all located in small bungalows, all in African style, and you can choose rooms with or without a private bathroom. There were mosquitonets and all rooms were equipped with fans. Rooms were very large and very clean. I had a room for 4 people to myself, with a private bath, a small terrace with chairs/table, for about 25 euro per night (Breakfast included). ||||There is a beautiful garden with lots of birds, lizards, crabs etc running around and a small restaurant/bar. The hotel often hosts local bands. There is a great pool with lounge chairs and the beach is right outside!||||The area of the hotel is quiet. There is a restaurant/bar about 200 meters from the hotel, which is a nice place to go at night, and there are a few homes and shops selling basics (soda, water, snacks). On sundays the clear area next to the hotel becomes very lively with drummers, partyers etc from Saint Louis. Great atmosphere!||||Saint Louis is a great city. Don't miss it when you go to Senegal. Don't believe the people who say it's only a daytrip from Dakar. There's lots to see (the best thing is to spend some time just walking around the different neighborhoods- the north isle, south isle, the fishing market area across the bridge). There are also several things to see in the area. I spent 5 days there and loved every...
Read moreI stayed for 5 nights because this place had everything I needed and I felt like the attractions of Saint Louis were accessible, despite the distance. The center of town can get tiresome but down on the peninsula, there are many birds, the sound of the waves and enough other hotels to visit if you want some different food. The kitchen here is amazing and they specialize in pizza in addition to French cuisine. The wifi is reliable and the pool is gorgeous. You can take local transportation to within walking distance of the hotel for only 125 CFA, no need for a taxi, except after dark when the cars do not leave from the bridge as frequently. The staff are welcoming and can arrange tours for you. Ask the owner about live music, it may even be playing at the...
