We spent two nights at the Hotel Barcode in order to visit Sombor and the surrounding area. it is a modern, stylish hotel, a pleasant 20 minutes' walk to the centre of the town. There is parking in front of the hotel.||Our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The carpet was clean and soft. The lighting was good - we had no difficulty reading in bed. The bathroom was big and the shower worked well. I don't think I have ever been in a hotel room that has had so much cupboard and drawer space. The safe was bigger than those in many hotels (useful for A4 size documents) and was at a reasonable height. All too often I have had to scrabble around on the floor to access a safe. The television had many channels including BBC News. Our room was so much better than many hotels where we have stayed. We would have been happy to spend much longer than our two nights here.||The "wellness centre" included a swimming pool, sauna and steam room. We really enjoyed using them on both of the evenings of our stay. They are open until 10 pm so we could return to the hotel after an early dinner and and spend the rest of the evening there. There was also a gym which we did not use. Slippers and bathrobes were provided in our bedroom. We were given cards which we exchanged for towels to use for the pool. This worked very effieicently.||With all these positive points about the hotel why have I given it a "very good" rating rather than "excellent"?||There were a few things about the hotel that could have been inproved to make our a really first rate experience. The young staff could easily have demonstrated a more positive attitude to their guests. Some restrictions seemed rather petty and not best practice in a modern hotel. I hope that the staff read this review. Is intended to encourage them to go a little step further to make their visitors' experience first rate.||We arrived before the official check-in time. The receptionist told us that our room was ready but instead of making this a purely positive thing she made us feel as if we had done something wrong by arriving early. ||Also when we checked in we were given some complicated information about drinks at breakfast. Her explanation was confusing . In fact there was plenty of excellent Turkish style coffee that we could help ourselves to. Instead of emphasising this, we were told the limits on other types of coffee for which there was an extra charge| At breakfast we were not asked whether we wanted any other coffee. In fact we did not, as we were very happy with what we had. In any case, it is very odd that guests should be charged extra for coffee.||Breakfast was a generous bufffet. The bread was very fresh. There was a wide offering of cereal, cold meat, fruit, pastries and so on. Unfortunately the trays of fried eggs and scrambled eggs looked as if they had been there for a very long time and were unappealling. The slices of cucumber were quite dry. Perhaps they, too, had been on display since early in the morning.||We had hoped to use the wellness centre again on the morning of our departure. We intended to pack up and check out and then spend an hour or two swimming and relaxing. We asked about it and were told we would have to pay extra. As we had to check out by 11 am and the pool only opened at 10am we did not have time. ||There are a lot of artificial plants around the hotel which looked good, especailly the green wall by the swimming pool. Perhaps the intention was to reflect Sombor's claim to be the Balkans' greenest city. If so, it worked. However, the plastic orchid in our bathroom was very dusty. Artificial plants don't need watering but they do need attention! I hope the staff wash and clean them regularly.||Despite these concerns (which were outweighed by the hotel's positive features) we really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Barcode and woukd recommend it to others. Just a few little changes could have made all...
Read moreFirst thing I noticed is the staff: very friendly and polite ! 10+ for them all (reception, SPA center, dinner, cleaning service personnel who rushed to the reception when we checked out, we forgot a charger in the room).
Breakfast and dinner: high quality food and products, more than enough, at a decent price (we had dinner extra). Good espresso. The dining hall is pleasant to the eyes, intimate, very comfy chairs. Plenty of choices for all tastes and dietary lifestyle. Tasty. At dinner, some of us had salads, others chicken schnitzel and other dishes. They don't joke with the quantity, nor quality, no matter the dish. You're stuffed when leaving the restaurant because you can't help yourself from stopping until the dish is empty 😁 The waiter has forgotten one small salad to bring it to us, was not a problem anyway... he apologized several times, was ashamed and wanted to compensate somehow. We appreciated his gesture. He's everywhere in that hotel, from SPA center giving you towels, then offering drinks, then later he's serving in the dining hall, and all that with dedication, smiling and exchanging a few words. Big thanks to him ! Apologize for not remembering his name.
SPA center: nicely and clean, excelent clean and warm water. Nice bath wraps (a bigger size, plus 2 smaller size, like prepared for a family) are provided in the room. Towels are given at the SPA center. Maybe a good idea to bring your own slippers, please refer to the section "what I didn't like".
Room: nicely decorated and clean, good mattresses (on the stiff side, but I slept well and no back pain in the morning).
Parking (free): at least in February, the private parking had plenty of free spaces. It's closed behind an automatic door, it has video surveillance. On the minus side, but not really important: SPA center: my suggestion for guests - bring your own slippers as hotel's ones are very very slippery on wet floor.
Room - maybe not necessarily a minus, this depends on your living style: the central heating delivered low temperature. No matter how high I set it, it was still too cold for us. But we feel best between 22.5 and 24 degrees in the bedroom, and I think this is above average.
I fully...
Često putujemo i bili smo u desetinama, stotinama hotela. Uključujući i razne banjske hotele u Srbiji. Očigledno će ih to upropastiti.
