Oh dear, where do i start? Ok. I will start with positives from family perspective... Charming village with a lot of traditions and character. Everything is overpriced! We stayed in a room suitable for 8 people. Thank god there was a back room with a door as we wouldn't be sleeping at all. The front room had two beds plus a pull up but every single tiny noise someone made was like we were sleeping outside. There was a family on our floor with a dog, yes dog, that was barking and kids up and screaming until after midnight. At €110 a night you'd expect better conditions and service. The highlight was our dinner the evening we arrived. The owner with some other guy talking rather loudly and literally swearing his head off. Luckily my son do not understand Slovak but if he did I'd say something. This is the lowest consideration to the paying guests I've ever seen, anywhere. Just shocking behaviour from manager. The food was nice by the way. Further on, if you are expecting any lay in in the morning don't get your hopes up. In a room for €110 a night you get short sheets that do not stretch all the way so you end up sleeping on a matrace that 100s people slept on before you, there are no curtains on the windows so you end up waking up at 5am in the morning in the summer. You want to have a shower in the bath? Forget it, you won't be able to stand up. Oh and try to work out the parking and you'd get a nobel prize in mathematics or risk a fine. I'm a native speaker and i couldn't do it. Btw if you have a foreign SIM card your sms parking will not work and there are no parking meters to buy tickets from so probably expect a fine by the morning. The village is charming and full of history. We stopped in the nearby Salaš (a place to have traditional Slovak meals but not limited to). It's one of those places you should visit but i wouldn't recommend Javorinka penzión. That place has some serious issues to fix. Oh and one good thing I forgot to mention was that the place would give you mountain bikes so that's a nice touch but if rather have a decent room and service...
Read moreWe have visited our family in the small village Cicmany near to Ilava city (or Trencin - approx. 55km) in the middle of July 2014. We have chosen Penzion Javorina because we saw this place many times while visiting our family. And it was very good choice! Very nice and cosy accomodation with great balcony with the view to the small yard and hills above the village. The staff was so friendly, but it is common on Slovakia I guess :-) People there are very nice. Breakfast was very rich with local specialities. Also the menu of the restaurant was very special and delicious with big portions. ||The village itself - Cicmany is small, but very nice with restaurants and beautiful landscape. With Strážov mountain or near Javorina hill, where you can ski during the winter time. Or you can go to swim to the natural lake - Nitrainské Rudno. I can recommend very nice and majestic mountain - Klak, you can see it from Javorina hill. Don´t forget to visit also the museum of national tradition and culture in Cicmany and buy delicious sheep cheese in Cicmany or near village Zliechov, directly to the...
Read moreI had table booked for 5pax. Having couple of confirmation emails from Mr. Sisik that we will get a "Traditional pig slaughtering" food. For this speciality I invited two of my friends from UK and Hungary both very know chefs and my family members. Went in the morning to confirm reservation and time what suit the best for team as Cicmany was a very busy village with folklore day. When we sat down, surprisely we were told that there is not that kind of food ready as they haven't kill even one pig this year yet!!! We ordered from a la carte menu starters and mains. We wait for main course 1hour after starters were cleared. Couple of guest left the table beside us, I was thinking just because we are loud, but they left straight after were told that waiting time for food is 40min as a minimum. Very disappointed in this but had to say food was good not a special as I ate same kind of food in Salas Krajinka and Salas Nimnica and was way better executed. And thanks to Joja as she does her best to make all customers satisfied....
