I just spent two nights here, and feel this was a good option. Its rate was reasonable, the room was clean and bright. The room was a nice, warm refuge after returning from very cold outdoor adventures. Breakfast was plentiful, and had something for everyone (sausages, breads, ham, cheese, yogurt, tomatoes, cucumbers, cereal, coffee cake, etc.). ||||When I arrived, there was no one at reception. I believe reception opened at 3pm. I had let them know via email that I would arrive around 1pm. It was tricky to get to Zdiar for me, and my driver almost left me out in the cold. I met 2 people in the 2 days I spent in Zdiar who spoke English. No one at the Pension Tatrakon spoke any English, and it's a very small town. I speak a few languages, and between those & come charades, I have always managed to get around pretty easily through Europe & the Americas. It was tricky here though. I did come with a few pages of some curtesy phrases and restaurant / directions info. I wish aI had more Slovak knowledge.||||I needed help getting ahold of a company with whom I booked an activity, and I needed someone from the hotel to place a call for me because my phone's International package didn't cover Slovakia. Eventually through charades and a few terms, they were able to help me, but it was tough.||||Alos, the read / driveway to this place was very steep. I saw a few cars not make it to the top. A guide I met actually slid down & parked at the bottom. So, if it's had new snow, and you are driving yourself, be sure you have winter tires, or be prepared to potentially carry your things up from the road below.||||Again, a good option, and I recommend the pizza place (pizza rustika) right close. That one is easy to find - as you leave the pension, at the bottom of the hill/ driveway, go right and it's very close by, maybe the 5th building on the left. The restaurant in the pension closed at 7:30pm, but there are a few other...
Read moreHowever, the positive side of that pricy breakfast is that one can eat just "a random hot food", and use these few slices of ham and chees to prepare a breadroll to take to a hike. On the other hand, I saw tourists doing this at the 6 € buffet at Penzion Partizan as well, preparing not just one breadroll, but several of them.||||Given that many old people as well as "tough hikers" get up at 6 am and eat just a littlebit of food for breakfast anyway, this can be an optimal place for such people, as rooms were pretty nice for the price, and the noisy heating was functional for both heating and quick and very hot water in a shower. However, for those of us with a biorythm in which we need to sleep after 6 am, this is a completely unacceptable place to sleep until they repair that noisy heating system (that seemed like a typical cheap sloppy business with...
Read morewe stayed there one night, we paid like 27 euro for one night, for 2 persons but we had like a bedroom, a living and a personal bathroom. it was very nice there, everything clean, the landcspae is wonderfull, everthing made of wood, fresh air...we had also breakfast included and it was really delicious....the only disavantage was that we didnt find it very easy, there is a village called Zdiar and all the streets from that village are called the same, it was hard to find it especially bcs we arrived at 10 pm. we couldnt eat there at that hour, in fact the woman from the reception was waiting for us to go. but we could buy somthing to drink..overall we enjoyed...
