Hotel Salamandra — Hotel in Hodruša-Hámre

We (me and family with 2 kids) stayed one night. The pool area with Jacuzzi is in good shape and kept nice and clean. If you are with family there is a nice kids play area. Rooms are spacious, bathroom in good shape. Beautiful surrounding with a great view. The receptionist was a nice guy. Greet us with a smile and helpful. The lady in charge of pool area and waitress in the restaurant also very friendly. Now the bad points. We booked on half board basis and was told there will be dinner buffet. The dinner ended a great disappointment. They didn't offer buffet as we were told the hotel is not occupied enough to offer buffet. We were given a menu card with 3 options for main course. The chicken snitzel was dried and the potato salad was too salty. The soup was ok, but surprisingly they served half of the soup bowl!!! We chose a piece of cake for dessert and it was super dry and I presume it was made month ago. Straight after dinner we had to go out to get something to eat as that dinner was TERRIBLE. As there are not many restaurants around, we managed to find a small pizza place 5km down the village. To be honest I wish, I booked breakfast only and go for pizza in the evening rather than wasting energy to have dinner in Slamandar. While we were in swimming pool the lady asked if we would like any drinks. We ordered 2 coffees. For a 4 star hotel, I expected some decent coffee. Instead we got terrible coffee which is from an instant coffee machine. Charging 2 euros per espresso is fine in a 4 star hotel, but not for instant coffee. The same at the breakfast, there was an instant coffee machine. Come on guys, can't you buy the cheapest bean to cup coffee machine? This was huge disappointment as I'm a huge coffee fan. The breakfast was quite ok, I wouldn't call it great breakfast as the hotel is a 4 star. I recommend the hotel but NOT FOOD. EAT...

We spent a long weekend in the hotel with my family. Already the booking was not that straightforward, the staff seemed to have problems with English communication (German didn't work either) which caused some problem when checking in. The language barrier remained, waiters in the restaurant also did not speak foreign languages but at least there was at least a menu in English. The language barrier seemed to make the staff kind of reserved towards us which surely did not help in creating the most pleasant atmosphere during our stay. Also, staff needs more training (if it is not obvious) that you don't shout from the other side of the restaurant to us to confirm our order. The breakfast was pretty poor for the category the hotel is pursuing. The quality of diner dishes was also quite unsteady, ranging from mediocre to high quality. In light of these the price/value ratio was surely unfavorable. To name the positive features: room was spacious and very clean. The kids playroom was excellent and well equipped. Celkový dojem z pobytu bol veľmi pozitívny. Pekný moderný hotel s príjemnými izbami, wellness prístupný aj pre deti, z bazéna krásny výhľad rovno na lanovku a zjazdovku. V zime krása pozerať na sneh všade okolo.

Našlo sa zopár výrazných “ale”, ktoré by sa v 4* hoteli vyskytovať nemali a to: počas nášho 5 dňového pobytu 3 dni nefungovala ani jedna z víriviek. V jednej fungovali len 2 trysky, ale to sa vírivkou nazvať nedá. Personál o tom vedel, riešil situáciu so servisom, hosťom ale neponúkli žiadnu kompenzáciu. Veľký detský kútik bol raj pre deti, ale bol dosť špinavý. Na izbách sa upratovalo veľmi zbežne - na mydle a kréme na ruky a na ich držiakoch pri umývadle bol počas celého pobytu prach. V sprchách na izbe chýbajú poličky - síce drobnosť, ale pri používaní vlastnej kozmetiky dosť problém. Druhý deň pobytu nám z izby síce zobrali špinavé uteráky, čisté sme ale nedostali a to ani nasledujúci deň počas upratovania, až keď sme si ich vypýtali. Večere sú síce od 18:00 do 21:00, počas nášho pobytu sme jeden krát (15.2.2023) išli na večeru “neskôr” - 20:10, čiže času sme mali dosť, no personál nám dal jasne pocítiť, že máme čím skôr odísť. 20:15 nám zobrali poháre zo stola a ani sa nás nespýtali či majú priniesť niečo na pitie a od rovnakého času chystali v priestore bufetových stolov raňajky. Cítili sme sa tam naozaj nepríjemne. Zachránil to jeden mladý pán čašník, ktorý sa prišiel spýtať, čo budeme piť. Ale je naozaj nevhodné aby takmer hodinu pred koncom večere sa hostia nemohli v kľude navečerať a čašníci už pripravovali raňajky. k raňajkám chýbali na pitie 100% džúsy, ktoré bývajú štandardom aj v lacnejších hoteloch (tu bola voda, sladené malinovky, čaj a káva) neviem, či ide o konštrukčný problém, alebo sú len tenké dvere, ale každý zvuk z chodby počuť, akoby to bolo rovno v izbe. Či už sa niekto na chodbe rozpráva, otvára dvere oproti, alebo upratovačka vysáva o 2 izby ďalej - malého to veľmi budilo počas spánkov. Samotné otváranie dverí je tiež veľmi hlučné, takže vojsť alebo vyjsť z izby počas toho ako dieťa spí je nereálne. Na to že ide o babyfriendly hotel je tu neskutočne málo detských jedálenských stoličiek. Narátali sme 4 ks a to na raňajkách zvyklo byť naraz aj 15 malých detí, čiže vždy sa niekomu neušla. K dispozícii sú aj podsedáky, ale tie sú vhodné až pre staršie deti. Detské stoličky boli tiež neustále špinavé, čistá bola len ak sme trafili tú, ktorú sme si po predošlom jedle po sebe vyčistili.

Naopak najväčším pozitívom hotela je PÁN kuchár. Jedlá boli vždy na vysokej úrovni, chutné, moderne spracované, čerstvé a dokonale prezentované na tanieri. Akékoľvek negatívum vždy kompenzovalo jeho kulinárske umenie. Ani na jedlá, ktoré sme si na obed objednávali, sme nikdy dlho nečakali a vždy sme vedeli vybrať niečo aj pre nášho skoro ročného drobca. Naozaj klobúk dolu. Kuchyňa je na veľmi vysokej úrovni. Milo nás potešila pripravená postieľka na izbe pre 11 mes. syna (aj keď sme nevyužili) a papučky a župan aj pre drobca. Tiež by som veľmi chcela pochváliť personál reštaurácie - obsluhu, ktorá mala službu 13.2., 14.2. a 17.2.2023, boli neskutočne milí a profesionálni, hlavne jedna čašníčka - tmavovlasá stále usmiata, tá vytvárala veľmi dobrú armosféru.
