Penzión Salamander — Hotel in Mlynky

First of all it must be said that the owner and staff were great and went beyond of what one would expect. Thank you for making our stay pleasant. However please treat those -2 stars as a room for improvement:

The good: Staff, size of the apartment

The mediocre: Aparment a bit run down but as I peeked into some other rooms they are being refurbished so maybe ours was not yet done. Downstairs playing are felt abandoned and quite dirty. Breakfast is not very good (in freshness, selection, presentation/serving, ...), Dinner was also below average in taste for the price

The bad: Overall the place just does not seem clean, stained carpets, etc. Service was slow (with a smile, but slow) Sauna did not work even though confirmed in the reservation email.

We spent wonderful 10 days in the region of Dedinky. The Hotel Salamander is a fantastic place, with many areas for groups, nice dining hall, big garden and terace, the rooms have nice, comdortable balcons with spectacular view on the hills surronding. The breakfeast buffet is abundant and diverse, the dinners are very tasty. Martin is very kind and helpful host, he went out his way to help us, which made our stay really pleasant! His crew is also very kind. I recommend the hotel to stay, and the region to explore! Here you can swimm in the lake, kajak, chill on the side, have small, and longer hikes since many valleys are really close. We stayed at Salamander for 2 nights, and our main goal was hiking and have a solid not-too-pricy place to stay. Salamander exceeded my expectations. Staff, especially owner is very nice and helped us with finding multiple hike routes and suggested other ideas (renting a small boat on Masa lake). He also offers renting mountain bikes for free. For me the attitude of staff and service is most important and this was more than excellent. Regarding room and facilities, it is not super fancy, but clean and comfortable.
