Motel Pod Stromišom — Hotel in Vlachovo

Some parts of the Hotel experience was poor, but the staff apart from the owner were good, so overall it was ok. I’m puzzled regardless how people can rate this place impeccably,and can only assume they didn’t run into the cranky old guy who owns it. In its best self, you could only at rate it 3/5.

On my arrival I was initially told I couldn’t have a room by the owner, despite having a reservation with booking, and more rooms being advertised there. I don’t know why this was, as I hardly saw a guest during my stay. It wasn’t booked out. The price however did double on booking for the remaining advertised room after I checked in, so that might have been that. Although my price did seem to be standard for the room looking in the calendar forward.

After initially being refused by the manager, one of the other staff thankfully accepted me, almost slipping me in after the old guy took off in his car. This was very good for me as I was travelling by bicycle, and by the time i had arrived it was mid afternoon and hot.

The hotel room was ok, although the shower had no hot water. As I was already hot and sunburnt, I didn’t care about the cold shower, but ordinarily you would. The rooms on the second floor would be unbearable on hot days, as there are no fans or AC. Mercifully I was on the ground floor. There is a sign at reception stating it was forbidden to bring your own electrical appliances.

Everywhere on the premise is cash only which is unusual for a combined hotel and restaurant in this day I would have thought.

One strange thing also was I repeatedly given my change in very small dominations for some reason. I gave payment in one instance so as to get rounded whole change back, aiming to return the previous recieved shrapnel, only to again be given the same coins back with a lot more, leaving me with a pocketful of 5c and 10c pieces. It concluded this to be a practice.

The restaurant offers a fixed, 2 course menu, which includes Lenthal soup and some type of main. I got rice with some beef strips dish. I see on photos there were different mains possible. The food was ok and cheap, but not a highlight.

My overall feeling is that you should be prepared here for quirky and even the unexpected, especially if you run into the hotel owner.

Others I see have commented on him both explicitly and implicitly, so he wasn’t just having a bad day. One reviewer commented that this hotel is one that doesn’t care about having guests. On arrival it certainly felt that way. The owner is not suited to hospitality, and should leave the customer facing part of his business to his staff, who were pleasant in their roles.

As for location - there is not much else going on...

Surprisingly OK-looking rooms when seen the neighbouring restaurant. Furniture and bathroom is old but clean. However, experience with staff was anything but ok. When we asked about a breakfast we got such a response that we decided to make our own. I recommend staying a few kilometers south in...
