Nice location and quiet area.||||Rooms are on second and third floor. No one was available to help some of the older folks with the luggage.||Room is of adequate size.||There is just one light in the room, ceiling light in the middle of the room. The only switch for this light is next to the door frame of the entry door. As a result when you shut off the light for the night you have to find your way back to the bed in darkness.||Room was clean.||||Bed linens are clean and of good quality,.||Matresses are quite hard.||Pillows are very poor. They were probably less than two inches thick and hard.. Because of its thinness if you laid down it felt like your head was directly on the mattress.||||No thermostat control for the heat.||There is a control valve for the heat, but it stays at whatever you turn it to. Thus, you may have to get up in the middle of the night to re-set it if the room feels hot or cold.||||Bathroom was clean, so were the towels.||No soap, either the liquid or the solid kind.||There is a wall mounted shampoo dispenser. However, it is mounted on the wall opposite the tub and you would need to be an orangutan to reach it when standing in the tub.||If you want to take a shower in the evening you'd better do it early, because later in the evening the place runs out of hot water.||||The best overall rating...
Read moreI have never left so much food on my plate without outright returning it to the kitchen. The garlic soup was basically raw garlic, I am afraid of my husband’s breath the rest of the night. The sauerkraut soup was heavily spiced with a smoky sort of sausage. I had the chicken with mushrooms - it was swimming in sauce, the chicken seemed to be what they used to make the chicken broth, boiled and chewy. I couldn’t eat more than 2 bites. The “American potatoes” are wedge cut fries that were totally unseasoned. My husband’s hamburger was barely passable. For the 2 soups, 2 entrees, and 2 soft drinks the total came out to 27 euros. Considering the quality of the food this was a total rip off - travel a little further up the road and you can spend the same amount at a 4 star...
Read moreWe ordered from Koliba restaurant – I had a chicken breast with a regional cheese-based sauce (called "brýndza" I believe), served with fries. The fries were good, but the sauce wasn’t really to my taste – I probably should’ve gone for something else. The other dish was a goulash – the meat was high quality and nicely cooked, though the sauce didn’t quite match what we expected from a traditional goulash.
On the positive side, the service was efficient and everything was served quickly. They also have a very pleasant garden, which makes for a nice atmosphere overall. So while the food was a bit hit-or-miss for us, the setting and service were...
