Nice hotel with a nice view and perfect kids learning ski slopes. Perfect for the first 2 seasons for kids to learn to ski. The hotel shows that it's a long time since renovation, but it's still solid. Just don't raise the prices guys because currently the prices are borderline for what you offer :):). The main advantage is also that it's not crowdy during high season, which is really a big +. And the ski schools or private ski lessons are totally on par or better than in Kranjska. The diversity of ski slopes is actually great for at least a few starting years for the kids. And we won't return to Kranjska for sure ... You're like a sardine there.... :) Oh, and the restaurant/caffe is poor on staff friendliness, especially the tall waiter doesn't really care (while the others are better), but today they served a fantastic coffee with cream and the hot chocolate is really dense, so they saved the day despite the lack in service friendliness. The food is also fine, although a little pricey, but still not too pricey to go elsewhere. The pizza is the more salty classic version, but it's actually fine for the location/region. All together, we will come back. :) Also in...
Read moreWe had a nice overnight stay and dinner at Hotel Jelka. The location was beautiful - right in the middle of meadows and mountains in a very rural part of Slovakia. The hotel was a bit of a surprise as the room was €180 for a night but it was more like a ski chalet being used for holiday accomodation in the summer. The restaurant was very basic in decor but the food was home cooked and felt very genuinely Slovenian. We had beef noodle soup for starter which wasn't great. Then for mains we had JOta which is Slovenian Sauerkraut and Bean Stew and also Pokljuka Krapi which was carp with buckwheat dumplings and a mushroom sauce. It wasn't exactly cordon bleu or something we'd order again but it did feel like we were trying authentic Slovenia cuisine which was interesting. It was only €35 for dinner for two including drinks so a fair price. The view from the hotel is very lovely and we had a great...
Read moreWe stayed at Jelka during our hike along the Juliana Trail. It was a welcome sight after a day of walking (mostly uphill). The room was very spacious, with a separate bathroom and big balcony. The only downside is that the tap water isn't drinkable. You can get bottled water from a fridge, but that's not very eco friendly.
Downstairs is a bar and restaurant which nice, simple dishes. Just what you need after a day of hiking.
I also want to give a special mention to the staff of the hotel. In the morning, my girlfriend had a blockage in her neck, so we could hike to lake Bohinj. One of the staff members was so kind to take us with him when he went down to the town. In all the hassle of our abrupt change of plans, I forgot my hiking poles and my cap, which is very dear to me. The staff sent it via courier to one of our next stops. Thank you for reuniting my cap and hiking...
