Located in a small village right on the boarder of Slovenia and Italy in Goriska Brna region. Hotel Venko and Casino has about 2 dozen rooms. The grounds are well manicured. Parking is plentiful. The hotel looks modern and clean. ||||Silvestra at the front desk was extraordinary. She spoke 4 languages and helped us far more than we had ever expected. She and others made our visit pleasant and memorable. ||Room was comfortable and we slept well. We initially booked this hotel for one night, but decided to stay for 4 nights. The olive, palm trees and grapes give it a Mediterranean feel that was tough to leave. ||||We really enjoyed the walking trails that pass through the vineyards, villages and hillsides. Driving from village to village was fun. It’s not a good idea to sample wine and drive the winding country roads. ||Good choice for our introduction...

I could not help myself not to get a feeling that hotel guests who are playing in hotel casino are the only interest of this hotel. We stayed for 3 nights and during that time nobody checked our room, cleaned it or changed towels. The breakfas was really good the first and the third morning, the second morning it was beyond average. ||The ventilation system in bathroom was so loud that it was heard even trough closed door. ||Otherwise the hotel is on quiet place and despite a really huge number of casino players in the evening (probably also during night) we didn't hear them to our room. We stayed at at Venko during a weekend visit to Brda and Wine. The hotel is a few kms outside of Smartno.||For those seeking a normal hotel experience as opposed to staying in a guesthouse etc, this is the only choice in the area. It is conveneient if travelling in a group. ||The hotel houses a casino and most visitors are patrons, who only visit during the day.
