Farm stay Peternelj — Hotel in Ilirska Bistrica

As someone who is doing quite a lot of traveling, this was definitely one of the places I enjoyed the most.||The hosting family is very very friendly and helpful, with Valentina in front going out of her way to make your stay most comfortable and pleasant.||They are serving amazing breakfasts - rich variety and high quality straight to your table.||Their family restaurant is also serving really excellent dinner menu: for example a unique “fusion” of gnocchi with Goulash, or the game meat.||The location is quite and beautiful, in the middle of the forest – great hiking and biking options.||Exceptional great attitude and attention: for my daughter which is vegan, they surprised us with a vegan bread which they baked especially for her, for breakfast.||**Important notice when using GPS: if you put directly the address, you will probably be taken through some rough roads (since this is the shortest), and it’s hard to find the place.|| The easy solution is using 2 steps: ||1. It was overall a pleasant and nice stay with the animals being the highlight, but it felt lacking in other areas. The rooms were fine, nothing fancy, but spacious and clean. I wish the mini split AC kept the room cooler. There was little introduction/engagement from the hosts; they told us where to walk around on our own to see the animals, and what times meals were. It doesn’t feel like it is really catering to tourists; it is a working farm and a home and the tourist side of it feels like an afterthought. The service was fine, but not overly welcoming/engaging. Maybe it was partially due to being later in the season. They could improve by providing more story with the meals, emphasizing sourcing etc. The dinner was good; unfussy and tasty. We came to this place at night and were accepted quickly and with warm hospitality. Our room at the 3rd floor (no elevator) was big comfortable and clean.|It looms like the place is new and the facilities looks good.|The highlight is the breakfast with is home made and suitable for children and adults and was delicious.|The only issue one has to overcome is the way here: our GPS system (waze) did not recognize and our also backup GPS (mio) also did not help.
