Great place. I’m done with big, noisy campgrounds where I can enjoy the latest cry of camper fashion and experience the pleasures of the local cuisine (snacking on an old hot dog). This campground is the opposite of everything that bugs me about campgrounds and modern tourism.
Small, mountainous, in the woods. Done with taste and cool reference to the traditions of the region. I could list endlessly what I liked. I’ll just write the most important.
the hosts put a huge amount of heart and emotion into this place. And you can feel it.
the place has a great vibe, even my six-year-old son ceased howling at full throat (more, he put on headphones to watch cartoons!!!). It is a miracle.
it’s worth giving the region a chance, and besides the biggest attractions (and there are some), it’s worth taking a dip in the surrounding forests. The region is the opposite of the Alps, more intimate, calmer, subtle.
Leave the big campervans with two bathrooms and tv set, remove the batteries from your electric bikes, recharge the head lamps, buy a good Slovenian vine (just remember to share with me) and turn onto the gravel road to visit Bela Gaber. Few such...
Read moreWonderful camping location at the forest, deep in the mountains between Slovenia and Croatia. We were 3 families, each with a motorhome and came from KRK islan, Croatia, and wanted a mid point stop before our next stop at Sobec camping near Bled in Slovenia. This place is magical. The host, Matea, greeted us with a bowl of plumbs she picked from her tree and recommended we don’t leave them out at night because they’re the bears favorites 🫢. Yes there are bears there (they nick named one MarcoPolo).. no frills like water or electricity, sanitary is cleaned frequently and shower is great with hot water. Nights are cold even at August so be prepared! Matea gave us directions for a nice easy hike with the kids through the forest and some meadows and which was beautiful and fun. We cooked in the shared common kitchen and sitting area which feels like in a Nordic cabin. Then we walked to the Grad Snežnik castle (aprox 3 km), which again is through amazing scenery and great fun. Highly...
Read moreLiked: the grass areas for setting up the tents are nice and flat, the surrounding nature, very quiet and dark at night which is great for watching stars, vegetables out of the owner's garden for free use, free use of the kitchen place (three gas powered stoves and three refrigerators) in the common hay-barn-kitchen-living-room, the wooden construction and design of the hay-barn building and the bath rooms, very relaxed handling of check-in and -out times
Disliked: for us it actually wasn't a real 'dislike' (!)... but you should be aware that (if all the tent sites and other accommodations are fully booked) there is not enough room to park your car close to the tents - unloading/loading is ok with a max. walking distance of (I estimate) 30 meters - but other than that the cars have to be parked around 100m from the tents. can't judge the WiFi... as we didn't even try to connect...
