This place is really great! That's why it gets 5 stars. After a few days I did feel like the owner Chris was a bit condescending and arrogant towards Americans. He has great local knowledge about everything, but some of it could be streamlined a bit. There's a binder with pages of all the things you can do and see in great detail, but some of it repeats similar themes over and over. Yet I was confused about the fact that we needed to "book" breakfast the day before. When he saw me mulling around looking for something to eat he let me know "breakfast is for families who book it the day before." Sorry... !! This is important, but not overly obvious from literature in the room. Even if this was communicated in an earlier correspondence with my wife when she booked our place, she didn't remember. We're staying in five different places in two weeks. Hard to remember all the details of each. We were out late the night before so we didn't see him. Maybe they could try communicating with guests through WhatsApp or something...? Also, I needed to ask what time check out was. It also wasn't obvious in our binder. Chris said 11am and not a minute later as our room needed to be cleaned for the next guests. I felt like this was totally fine and understandable. Not very cordial and a tad bit rude in delivery in my opinion. His wife Hannah is quite charming. I do think they have something special here, it just needs a little fine tuning. I wish...
Read moreThis is far and away the best place we stayed in Slovenia. And woe is me, we had only a night here. Chris and Hanna have created a little slice of paradise in this wonderful location, right in the middle of the sea and the mountains. We all LOVED the place - from the homemade mosaics and family heirlooms, to the Owlery down a winding path in the garden (utterly magical), with the old-fashioned arcade games which kept our teenagers entertained, and stacks of books over many floors. This is an extraordinary place to stay, which has been created with love and flair - and considerable thought for sustainability. We had a delicious dinner of local cuisine, and breakfast was the best ever - with loads of different options to tempt carnivores or vegetarians alike (even non-dairy milk). Hanna walked with us halfway to Predjama Castle, to show us the way through the woods, and Chris gave us directions to Velika Planina and tourist suggestions for Ljubljana on our departure. Electric cars can charge here, and they rent bikes too (which we would have done if we’d stayed longer). We’ll be back for a...
Read moreWe are so happy that we found this lodge! We came to Slovenia for a trail running race and to explore some of the country. The website drew us in because of all the detailed information about what to see, do, eat, explore in 'secret' Slovenia! Chris and Hanna's knowledge and attention to detail was impeccable. Chris thoughtfully planned out ideas for us based on our likes/dislikes, accessibility, and wow factor! He saved us so much time and effort in creating itineraries for our daily explorations. The grounds of the lodge are very unique and interesting, do take some time to explore....hoot hoot! Breakfast was enjoyable with plenty of variety. Room (we stayed in the loft), was clean, comfortable and the bonus sauna very rewarding after our long race. Location is handy to reach many different caves, castles, etc. If you are considering this property, don't hesitate, book it! We will be back. Thank you...
