Počitniške hišice "Čarna" — Hotel in Puconci

Be really careful if you want to visit this place with a dog. During our stay there was snail poison in the vegetable garden and our dog ate from it. The poison contained the extremely deadly “Metaldehyde“; as little as 1 teaspoon per 4.5kg body weight can be fatal for dogs.

Metaldehyde is the most common known cause of dog deaths in cases referred to the Veterinary Poisons Information Service (VPIS). Therefore, this kind of slug poison is banned in many countries in Europe.

Because our dog was showing symptoms of organ failure we had to see multiple veterinary clinics. 3 different doctors all had the same conclusion: the only reason that our dog survived is the fact that she is a 30kg labrador. If she would have been smaller, she would have died.

We had over €350 in bills. In total, our 2 night stay at Hišice Čarna costed us €670. The owners didn't offer any form of compensation. It was the worst and traumatic vacation we have ever had.

We recently learned that the owners didn't take any safety measures after the incident: the poison is still there! We already told them there is a snail poison on the market that is not harmful for dogs and other animals (that contains "Iron Phosphate" instead of metaldehyde), but they didn't...
