Gostilna pri Janezu — Hotel in Slovenska Bistrica

When we drive in Europe we always book hotels for stop over en-route. Our aim is to be close to the motorway and have a car park on site at budget price. I couldn’t believe my eyes to see the beautiful countryside when we drove to this place just off the motorway. The guesthouse hotel has a big car park and very easy access. There is a restaurant on-site with really nice menu. When entered our room (17) - my husband asked if I made a mistake and booked for more people 😁. I haven’t, I booked for 2 adults and a child and got a big family room with a separate bedroom for our boy. The room was already nice and cool with perfect air conditioning. The bathroom was huge and all beds very comfortable with nice bedsheets. There is no fridge in the room but we were informed about it via email and they are happy to store things in their fridge if needed. We found the reception on TVs (there were 2, one in each room) very fuzzy but perhaps it was just us not tuning the channels properly - it was not important. WiFi was strong and stable. Decent food, but it's all very basic. Prices are pretty high for what it is. The atmosphere was awful, this is a place is for a couple or for a whole family, that is loud and makes a ruckus. I had some steak with peppercorns, it was awful. The corn completely overpowered every single hint of steak or meat. The sides are very reminiscent of the area (mashed potato,...). The saving grace was the staff being polite and kind. If you need to feed a large family, I would recomend this restaraunt, but if you have less than four people in your group I wouldn't recomend...

Used this place as a stopover just for one night. It’s a guest house with restaurant that is open until 10pm. Huge parking space, easy to find. A little detour from A9, but not too far out. Rooms are very spacious and clean with all the basic necessities. Comfortable bed. Breakfast is payable, but at 6.10 euro per person is amazing value. We had fresh crumbled eggs, cheese, freshly baked breads and croissants, lots of different conserves. You could also have ham, cereals, yogurts, fruits … coffee was lovely. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay...
