We decided to celebrate our wedding at Velika Planina and have both our families sleep over at Zafran, Ojstrica, Bistra and Zlatorog cottages, and it turned out to be an absolutely perfect weekend. The decision to choose this enchanting location for our special day was one of the best we've ever made. The entire experience, from start to finish, exceeded our wildest dreams.
Amidst the stunning natural beauty of Velika Planina, cottages provided the most idyllic setting for our celebration. The cottages, with their charming allure, were an embodiment of comfort and elegance. Each detail was meticulously curated, and it was evident that a lot of thought had gone into creating a magical atmosphere.
What further added to the charm of our stay was the incredible breakfast that awaited us each morning. It's not just the delicious spread that impressed us, but also the care and attention put into every meal. From locally sourced ingredients to the artistic presentation, each breakfast felt like a gastronomic delight.
The host hospitality was the icing on the cake. His dedication to ensuring every aspect of our stay was impeccable was truly heartwarming. Whether it was helping with logistics or catering to our needs, his commitment to our happiness was unwavering.
The combination of the enchanting cottages, the breathtaking surroundings, and the host exceptional care created an experience that will forever hold a special place in our hearts. If you're looking for an extraordinary location to celebrate your special moments, koca.si cottages at Velika Planina come highly recommended. This weekend will forever be etched in our memories as a time of pure...
Read moreVelika Planina is otherworldly and utterly breathtaking. This is THE place to stay there. The hut combines traditional architecture with surprising luxury. One of the huts is a full three stories tall, with a generous master bedroom beneath, four twin beds above, and a living room with a bed, dining table, kitchen, full bathroom, pantry and even...wait for it...a sauna. It's perfectly located with an amazing view, of course, and just a few minutes' walk from the gondola and an inn, where you can get meals. Rok, the host, is kind and generous. He'll drive guests all the way up the mountain if they like, he offers huge locally-sourced breakfasts (think fruit, bread, hyper-local yogurt, honey), so big that they can qualify as lunch and a midnight snack. He hand-writes a welcome note for each guest, leaves a bottle of homemade schnapps as a welcome gift, and can cater to any needs--just let him know. When I stayed there, the gondola was down for repairs, so he drove me all the way up the mountain and picked me up the next day. This is also a brilliantly laid-out and equipped hut (many are lovely but far more spartan). Under floor heating, a woodfire stove and plenty of wood, unlimited use of water (which is in short supply on Velika Planina, as it has to be driven up the mountain), the sauna, and a pantry filled with enough supplies to survive a zombie apocalypse (this is key because there are no stores on the mountain top, so you need to bring up anything you'll want). This was just the perfect place to stay and I'm eager...
Read moreWe spent 2 nights in this mountain cottage. The location is really great, you have a wonderful view of the mountains out of the windows. The view point on top of the hill is also a quick walk (5min) up, which is great to watch the sunset and sunrise. The cottage is also very close to the upper station of chairlift (currently not working, they got motor sleigh to take you up) and from restaurant Zeleni rob (where you can grab a bite if you don’t feel like cooking). Rok was very kind and helpful throughout the process, helping us with organization and cable car tickets discount, he welcomed us to the cottage when we arrived and was happy to help us during the stay with anything we would need (eg renting sleigh). The cottage itself is very cosy, the sauna is perfect after a long winter day and the bedrooms are cute (especially the attic one). Winter is the perfect time to enjoy Velika planina- we had a wonderful sunny weather, went sleighing to the other side to Mala planina and grabbed lunch at Jarski dom- delicious slovenian food. In the evenings, you can play board games in the cottage ( the Forester is one they made themselves and we liked it a lot) and read, enjoy some mulled wine and sauna. The local procuts we got for breakfast were delicious and we ate them also as aperitivo in the later afternoon. The little “shop” in the cottage is perfect so you don’t need to carry too much heavy food and drinks up and can get some supply (at a reasonable price) there. We really loved it and can’t wait to come...
