To start with, "gostišče" in Slovenian translates into an eatery. Often, but not necessarily with some rooms. Clearly there are also some rooms (5) in the building that I shall never explore, but the emphasis was, is and will be clearly on food. This should kindly be noted by TripAdvisor in assigning the hotel/restaurant status. And of eatery I shall express my opinion.||||I have had worse experiences. When eating in the mandatory army service in mid eighties far away from home. However, my incredibly thrifty brother-in-law chose the place to celebrate two family birthdays, so I hoped for a welcome surprise. Khm.||||Marvelous location by an artificial lake some ten miles from Ljubljana center, surrounded by forests. Ideal for a top class restaurant for the local jet set. However, instead of a host of small well separated individual dining areas, a huge communist era syndicate eating hall for some hundred people persists (preferably coming in groups), awaiting you right above the romantic landscape. A further smaller slightly secluded room for 20 without a view. Obviously a place for celebrations, weddings… Of a very basic level, as it turned out. Relativerly big own parking.||||The service for a Saturday lunch was two neatly clad gentlemen serving with ease some 50 people in five less than demanding parties. Both well behaved and friendly, relatively well trained, yet incredibly easygoing and forgetful. Neither has probably seen a serious restaurant in his lifetime. Wine list? Forget it. Three red and two white wines by the glass (at 1 EUR per glass…). Cabernet sauvignon to be delivered straight into the sink ASAP. Bottled wine? One (1) white still and two (2) most notorious old school Slovenian sparklers, all with remarkably serious markups. Shame! Menu unnaturally long, just name your food preference. Now: do you prefer for starter grilled porcini (and get half cooked industrial canned sliced champignon mushrooms) or snails (sorry, just sold the last ones)? Do you love overdone tasteless two millimeter thin allegedly veal Wienerschnitzel? What about a great set of defrozen industrial vegetables and French fries to go with your beefsteak? And finally a lovely dessert of imported cheap and (again) tasteless strawberries with ice cream made from an even cheaper extract, its artificial taste persisting in your mouth for the next hour till you wash your pharynx with a glass of top rum back home? ||||Now, again, I can not recollect such miserable food in decades, a record low of 2 on the 1 to 20 scale. I am certain, however, the place is a great cash cow for the owners. A vast proportion of people just intake food to survive and wine to get drunk.||||I can not recommend the place to anyone. Yet, for 12 euro you do get the Wienerschnitzel, fillet steak (250g) for 19 and a lovely view for free. However, if you do enjoy good food and wine –...
Read moreI booked this hotel the day before we were due to arrive in Slovenia. Both my partner and I are mountain runners and were competing in an event nearby, so the location was perfect. It was also a 30 minute journey from the airport, which made it even more convenient. I had no previous experience or knowledge of this hotel, other than the photographs I'd seen, and the reviews I'd read on trip advisor - it scored highly so I knew it must be good. ||It was easy to find with the sat-nav and the surrounding area is beautiful. The hotel is situated next to a lake and our room had a lakeside view - it was beautiful! ||Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted by the hotel manager, Hary. I was impressed with how friendly and professional he was. His English was also very good. He recommended places for us to visit (and run!), and within the first hour, we ran up to the top of Smarna Gora (local iconic hill), using his directions to get there. He even arranged for the chef to work a little longer so that the restaurant was open when we returned. ||The food was absolutely fantastic - we tried the local wine and sampled local dishes, again Hary's recommendations. The meal cost us 38 euros and we enjoyed bread and oil to start, a steak (each) for our main, with grilled vegetables, potatoes and salad. We also had 2 glasses of red wine each and a coffee. Amazing value and excellent quality, I would highly recommend eating here. The breakfast was just as good - VERY good coffee, a HUGE plate of fresh fruit and a choice of continental or cooked breakfast. The staff, especially Hary, could not do enough for us. It was one of the best hotels I have stayed in and I would recommend staying here. We arrived as customers and left as friends. We...
Read moreRiding my motorbike in Slovenia, tired and in search for a place where to rest body and mind I find this place. Simple organised but complete if the necessary amenities to sleep, have a great dinner, a wonderful wake-up included a walk on the beautiful lakeside to join the new day. There closeby there is a free training island in a small park adjacent the lake, bit of joga and a quite relaxing gym as complimentary plus. Back in the hotel the very very gentle woman at the bar asks me if I would like to have an espresso! Kind, gentle and seriously to propose, stop there if you look for nice and effective welcoming. Stay away from luxury BS,...
