Gostilnica Orle — Hotel in Upravna Enota Ljubljana

We visited twice so far. Ordered ribs both times. And the experience was quite different in our visits. The first time, the waiter was super nice and fast to serve us. We both got the dish brought to us fast. As well as the drinks.

But the second time, the waiter was kind of strange. We waited a long time for them to take our order. We ordered drinks and ribs again. First, he brought one serving of ribs. Then the drinks. And then we waited about 15-20 min. For the other serving of ribs to be brought to the table. Meaning my partner already ate his ribs before I even got my dish. We ordered desert after – crapes with chocolate. The crape (1 crape) was not that great. The chocolate was not good and the crape was a bit dry. We asked to pay three times... waited for almost 20-30 minutes to get the bill. Also, the waiter was talking a bit to himself, cussing over some other customers. Was not a great experience.

Also, the first ribs we tried here were delicious – amazing. But on the second visit they were not that great. A bit dry and not salty enough. Maybe they were just too busy. Very nice and cozy place to have lunch or dinner surrounded by beautiful nature that you can admire close-hand or up top from a lookout tower which provides a nice panoramic view of Ljubljana and some neighbouring towns. There is quite a selection of pizzas that are baked in a traditional oven with the hint of real wood smoke. There are also quite tasty looking burgers and my personal favourite, bbq ribs with potatoes. The portion will satisfy even the hungriest people and will leave you wanting more so if you’re a local you are sure to come back soon. There are also hiking trails so you can lose those calories after. Beside beautiful nature you can see also deer which is conveniently enclosed so you are sure to find them hanging around and munching on the grass not far from the place. All in all a good place to come, either by foot or car. They also do delivery but wouldn’t recommend because fresh ribs are so much better than those you get delivered. Also check if they have available seating beforehand, especially for large parties, because a lot of tables are reserved at evenings and the place...

Overall, great experience until I witnessed the older gentleman cook* leave the bathroom without washing his hands. 🤢 How after two+ years of Covid, people don't automatically want to wash their hands is beyond me. *Initially, I didn't realize he was a cook until I went back into the restaurant to see him wearing an apron.

Came on a rainy Saturday around midday for lunch and was seated without any issues. Fantastic service with a varied menu ranging from pizzas to salads to meats and local faire. While there were not many options for non meat eaters, the yota without meat was wonderful. We shared the Adriatic pizza (I didn't get ham on my half), yota and beans stew with a beer and wine all for under 40€. Great vibes - a bit reminiscent of a ski lodge comfort.
