If I could give 0 stars I would. This hotel is the worst I have ever stayed in, and that is saying a lot. It is old, and lots of lovely hotels are old, but this is not lovely. It is a disgrace- filthy, grubby, and it's owner seems more interested in showing the world that he was once knighted by the Queen rather than care about his guests. When you see the photos I post with this review you will understand. |As I checked in I saw the filthy mass of power cords at the front desk and things went downhill from there. |From reception I had to climb 9 flights of stairs ( too bad if you have a disability) to get to the room. I consider myself lucky I was not in one of the higher rooms! |The bathroom should be condemned- mould ridden and filthy. The curtain at the window ( yes a curtain) looks like it had not been washed in years. I told the hotel to replace it. The tile grout at the base of the toilet is badly stained ( gee what would do that?). It is so bad you need a shower after having a shower. |The bed is so horrific you feel the bed springs as soon as you sit on it. It is just old and past it's usefulness. I can't bear to look at what is under the pillow cover for fear of having nightmares. Let's talk facilities: no wifi, one tea bag per day ( actually the room attendant just told me the usual allocation is NO teabags just Nescafé sachets of coffee) but you better have it black because there is no milk. You have one towel- so use it sparingly. No shampoo or conditioner, just the coin sized little soaps wrapped in paper. The TV is the size of a small computer monitor but the reception is so terrible you can't watch the 3 available channels anyway. No clock, no radio or anything like that. The curtains are so thin ( and dirty) you can't sleep because of all the light that shines in ( that's if the bed springs haven't got to you). The final straw came when I went to iron some clothes for work the next day-OMG the ironing board cover was thick with dirt and mould and what even looked like blood. I marched it right down those stairs at 11 o'clock at night to shame them into finding me another one. I could go on and on. The baseline is that this place needs to be condemned. Yes, it is a third world country, but that is not an excuse for filth and just not caring about your guests. Stay there at...
Read moreRecently I stayed at the Honiara hotel whilst attending a business conference and it was a comfortable & enjoyable experience. The staff are very friendly and helpful, arranging transport from the airport and to & from the conference daily. The hotel sits on the side of a hill with the rooms arranged on 4 levels, so depending on your room location, there can be lots of stairs. The staff also helped here with bag portage. |The hotel is an older, island-style property and some aspects of it are tired and need refurbishment (such as the gym). The rooms are clean and air-conditioned and the beds are comfortable with new linen. The wi-fi worked once I figured out which side of the room was covered, but I had no problems connecting to Zoom meetings via my laptop on the desk. The TV reception was great and offered multiple English language channels. |I also dined at the Honiara hotel with 4 colleagues. Again the staff were helpful as a number of us ordered fish and the waitress recommended against it as she said it wasn’t fresh, but they would have fresh fish in the morning. We opted for steaks which were well-cooked & delicious. The service was a little slow due to the hotel hosting multiple football teams for a regional championship, but they made a mends with some complementary garlic bread. |The hotel has a large pool with adjoining deck and a games-room & bar. These all appear to be in good order and were very popular, creating a relaxed...
Read moreTo describe this hotel as "quirky" is an understatement. The owner,Sir Thomas Chan, has decorated the hotel with his own unique, sculptural creations, featuring some famous actresses in various poses.Sir Thomas also has a great admiration for all things royal, and has many photographs of Queen Elizabeth, along with those of Wills and Kate from their recent visit to the Solomon Islands. My room 451,was clean with great a/c, although, the bathroom could do with an upgrade.I had hot water once in 4 nights but I'm not complaining,as to have a shower which actually works, was a big bonus in the Solomons! The buffet breakfast was adequate, with a lovely selection of tropical fruit available. My lunch of 'fish and chips' was very good and I could not complain about the amount and quality of the food. The hotel provided great service in organising transport to and from the ferry terminal which was greatly appreciated. Make sure you take up Sir Thomas's offer to view his recently built butterfly breeding enclosure, as this is about the closest you will get to any wildlife in the Solomons. I will certainly be staying at this hotel in the future because of wonderful service, tasty food and "quirky" atmosphere. Thanks so much for your hospitality Sir Thomas, I can fully understand why you were knighted...
