TLDR: Lovely, comfortable and clean place to overnight, relax and enjoy nature, just consider dining in town.
A fuller version: Beautiful bush camp with neat, clean and cozy rooms. Gas heaters, so your shower is hot despite load shedding. Somebpart of load shedding was alleviated by their generators. Quality beds, linen and other furniture. The rooms have comfort items as far as most bush camps go (kettle, two plate stove and mini oven, microwave oven, small refrigerator, and even a television which I deem unnecessary). The children absolutely loved the loft beds.
The large lawns and gardens are beautiful, have lotsbof trees and are well kept. Parking areas are well marked and logically placed. You might wake up at sunrise with a giraffe casually grazing the garden's trees, with his mates just a few steps behind him snacking on the veld's trees, hoofs snapping small twigs and bodies rustling through the branches.
The honesty bar is stocked with most basics and is a refreshing experience in humanity's morals.
Presumably the camp is pet friendly, since a soft fluffy cat greeted us at reception and other guests had their dogs with them, all of them having a blast without being a nuisance.
Breakfast there was... interesting. I wouldn't recommend having meals there, but would rather suggest that guests support any of the 4 or 5 starred lovely local restaurants like Karushi or 4Sheep. Ko-ka Tsara's meals varied from being unpalatable to being shifty or having unusual tastes. The meals were overpriced and not righteously so.
The staff at mealtime that we encountered were all extremely friendly, eager to make their guests feel comfortable and wanted to offer their highest level of hospitality, but it seems unlikely that they have any training on waitering, general kitchen duty like safely operating an electrical kettle and/or food preparation. There was uncomfortably long periods with no staff being around to assist, guide or serve and overseas guests asking us as locals if that is the norm.
The drive out to the bushcamp is a slightly bumpy dirt road, but not uncomfortably long nor undriveable. If I ever would re-visit Beaufort West, I'll dine in town, but I would without a doubt overnight at Ko-ka Tsara again (and even comfortably self-cater there), regardless if the main reason for a visit there is to be in the...
Read moreWe have visited Ko_ka Tsara since it opened many years ago and are still a favorite with us in the Beaufort West area. The new 4 chalets are beautiful and very upmarket. Aircons in chalets works really well. Wifi and Dstv.
There is nothing not to like about this place. Irene at reception. Thanks, excellent service. Thanks, Chris, for bringing us ice and wood to our chalet.
Lush green, manicured lawn. Sparkling pool. Dog friendly. They provide meal packs for self braai and also ready-made meals.
The chalet is immaculately clean. White crisp linen and towels. 5 star beds.
All the amenities are provided in the kitchen , even an airfryer. Outside braai area.
Wide vast spaces to leisure drive. Even driving to the top of the summit. It is unbelievable to gasp that this place is in the barren karoo. Situated between majestic mountains.
There are also different trails to walk.
The showers have excellent water water pressure with extremely hot water
Easy gravel road, even for normal cars. There are lots of game to see, e.g, impala , giraffe, and much more. Abundance of birds' lives. Such a tranquil environment to recharge in nature after a long drive.
Thanks again, Irene and Chris, for attending...
Read moreOn our way home from CT, my husband and I were treated to a nights stay at this hidden gem tucked away in the mountains near Beaufort West. We arrived in the early afternoon and were greeted by our host Kobus and immediately made to feel like part of his family. Just as the adds say the chalets are cosy and comforatable the setting beautiful and for anyone just wanting to chill it is an ideal spot to make a break in a long journey or even just go straight there for your holiday if you like hiking and 4x4 trails. We went on a very beautiful hike through the reserve spotting several birds and impala along the way and climbed to the top of the dam wall where we spotted a fish eagle and then came back to camp for a braai before the heavens opened. One suggestion, perhaps some clear sheeting over the rustic patio awnings in front of the chalets would enable one to still sit outside even in the rain. Although it was only one night, we enjoyed our stay and would certainly go again. Thank you Kobus you make your guests feel...
