Kwafubesi offers the kind of camping anyone would enjoy - the chance to do absolutely nothing in a luxury tent over the course of a weekend. Here, everything is taken care of for you - from being picked up at the main lodge and transported to the safari camp and welcomed with a frosty drink and hot towel for your hands, to having your luggage delivered at your luxury tent. The manager, Sammy Mokwatlo, and his staff went out of their way to make our time there as comfortable as possible. There are only five tents, set apart from each other to offer privacy, but close enough to the boma for meals and drinks. Each tent is set on a raised platform with its own deck, has a big, comfortable bed surrounded by mosquito net and an en-suite bathroom. The game rangers are very knowledgable - during our stay we had the company of, Cyrano, who proved as adept with his knowledge of the animals and fauna as he was at pouring and serving sundowners midway through the game drive. This is a great venue for a romantic getaway, and you can enjoy an early morning or afternoon game drive, a pampering spa session at the nearby Mabula Lodge, and a typical African braai for dinner in the boma. If game drives are not your thing, you can sign up for horse-riding, a ride on quad bikes or a guided bush walk. And if you just want to laze around the splash pool or the deck of your tent, then those are great...
Read moreIn terms of facilities, more 3 star than anything else. In terms of service - really poor. We had an incredibly disappointing experience at Kwafubesi for a few reasons: When we arrived the place was in disarray and no staff were present. The area and dinning lounges were not set up and the place was a bit grubby. There were chairs scattered as if there had been a function on the grounds before we arrived. The private boma also appeared as if there had also been a function there the night before and hadn't been cleaned. There was only one gent present from Mabula at the camp and he seemed overwhelmed and disappeared after a few moments. We had to carry all our own bags - quite a distance - to the tents. We found broken toilets in some of the tents. The pool was pretty dirty - we had to clean it ourselves before we could use it. The facilities themselves are quite run down and the place needs an update. There was a gas issue at the camp so they made us go to the main lodge to have a buffet dinner - definitely not what we paid for or the private experience we expected. No aircon and no wifi - odd for what is described as luxury tents.
The only reason I gave it a 2 star and not a 1 is that the game ranger was very knowledgeable and the drives themselves were good. Also, after much back & forth with management we received a...
Read moreWe booked Kwafubesi last minute and oh boy, this was a great decision. Our guide MJ was a great, knowledgable and truly committed to make our wishes come true going extra mile to bring some extra magic into our day. The whole experience felt very intimate as there are only 5 tents, so it's quite a private experience. It was really tranquil, food was amazing and plenty, we never got bored with it. Tents had a big tub, hot water, shower, heated mattress that is especially nice and cozy in colder months. We have seen many animals including lions (and a lion kill of wildebeest!), cheetahs, rhinos, buffaloes, wild dogs, zebras, elephants, giraffes, wildebeests, kudus and many other antilopes, many birds and I'm probably missing something. We loved it! And convenience of getting from JB was...
