Certainly an "away from it all" destination, we enjoyed our time here and found it good value for money - helped by a "3 for 2" special - thanks Theresa & Reinhard! Whether you perceive the tents to be truly "luxury" probably depends on what you've been exposed to before - as rustic tents go, they are pretty luxurious; but as "luxury tents" go, they are somewhat rustic. With that said, all the amenities for easy camping are there (running water, electricity, flush toilet, hot shower, fridge, stove etc) and everything works fairly well. Rashid is the "camp manager" and general "go to guy" and he was very friendly and helpful. Be aware that final access to the tents is via a beach (sand) road, so if you are not in a suitable vehicle, Rashid will ferry you and your luggage there in a 4x4. Fork North is relatively close to the access road (~100m) whereas Middle Fork and Fork South are about 200m and 300m away respectively. Alternatively if have a suitable 4x4 (or 4x2 with good sand-driving skills), you can DIY. Likewise, access to the beach is also via a deep sand road, so you will need a suitable vehicle or be prepared for a ±300m overland walk over two sets of dunes to get there. Walking is a bit of a schlepp if you are carrying stuff, but well worth the effort - the beach is magnificent and you are virtually guaranteed to have a large chunk of it to yourself. It's a pet-friendly destination, which is great for the doggies but this might not be everyone's cup of tea. Very interesting climate - due to the proximity to the cold west-coast sea, it can go from sweltering sunlight to icy-cold fog in a few minutes - make sure you are prepped for both and especially for chilly, foggy...
Read moreOne of the best weekends away that we’ve had. We really loved this tent camp – beauty, location, hospitality, comfort! We liked the fact that it is pet friendly, as we generally always travel with our 2 small dogs. The location is excellent, in the middle of nowhere, set amongst the bush covered sand dunes, just a short 200m walk to the beach over the dunes. You can hear the waves crashing day and night over the sand dunes. Lots of opportunities in the area for walking and bike riding. We received a warm welcome from Theresa and Rashid who made us feel at home and provided us lots of useful information. The tent was spacious inside with an attached bathroom and basic kitchenette. In addition, there was a very nice outdoor eating and braai area, as well as a nice veranda to sit on and view the surroundings. It was really idyllic! The tent was clean and comfortable, with electricity and gas-fired hot water. We even had fairy lights strung across our ceiling. There is no Wifi and the cell phone connection is quite poor in this part of the world. We generally cooked up our own meals in the kitchenette, but one night we went 5km down the road to Draihoek and had a great sit down dinner at their restaurant. Overall we had an excellent stay and would definitely come back here again. Highly recommended to...
Read moreThe reason I really like this place is because you can camp without having to own any camping goods!! It is remote and beautiful and equipped very well. You can eacrh it with a normal vehicle, no 4x4 required to get to the dues. Your host will take you to the tent with all the luggage in a open Landrover. You will find good linen, proper beds, perfectly clean luxury tent, a warm welcome, and a setting that is spectacular. I like the fact there is electricity, you can use it or not, you can cook or braai. If you really HAVE to use your phone, there is reception. There is running warm water and all the little things you need e.g. shower gel and body lotion. Just bring bottled water if you are fussy about the taste of water and insect repellant like peaceful sleep. The beach is very close, bring decent shoes to walk. This is as close to a completely private beach that you can find, no one in sight...
