Mogalakwena River Lodge Alldays — Hotel in Blouberg Local Municipality

The lodge is situated on a gated private reserve in the Limpopo region (north east) of South Africa about a 6hr drive from OR Tambo airport, Johannesburg.||From the initial welcoming by the duty manager M’Pula the whole checkin process was fast and easy to being shown to our chalet.||The chalet was well appointed and very clean, overlooking the river that flows by the lodge. The bed was comfortable and especially after daily walks in the bushvelt on the reserve. Bathroom had a full size bath and separate shower and came with toiletries. Airconditioning and tea & coffee making facilities were included in the room. ||The lodge chef, Percy, was great and catering for a gluten-free diet he produced incredible food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nothing was too much and times were flexible. ||The lodge was peaceful and quiet going hand in hand with the welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were friendly and always had a smile. ||As for the reserve what a fantastic place to explore with fauna and flora in abundance. Note you will not see the big 5 here but everything else makes up. Also ideal for birdwatching. ||Overall a very relaxing...

Unfortunately - in all the marketing advertising about the lodge, both the lodge and Bookings.com failed to mention that the access road was totally unsuitable for a standard SUV vehicle, in this case we have a VW Tiguan. 30 kms of extreme corrugation and strewn with rocks which would cause damage to sump and who knows what else. We were advised by a farmer in Alldays who knows the road well that we would never make it in our vehicle - which incidentally only has 8000kms on the clock so is a current model. In addition, Bookings.com mentions that the lodge is 1.8 from the centre of Alldays - the reason why we booked as we were on our way to the BOtswana border the next day. In fact it is 10kms out of Alldays, and then the further 30kms on an unpassable road. ||||We were told by the same farmer that the lodge is beautiful and we would enjoy it - we just couldn't get there. After a very stressful search in Alldays we were able to find accommodation at Baobab Lodge - very comfortable and went out of their way to assist us. Highly recommend them.||||Still waiting for a response from Bookings.com...

We worden na enig app contact door de vrouwelijke manager op het afgesproken tijdstip aan de poort opgehaald om van daaruit samen naar de lodge te rijden. Bij de lodge aangekomen worden we erg vriendelijk door haar ontvangen met een welkomstdrankje en naar onze kamer begeleid. Helaas is er weinig informatie over wat de mogelijkheden in en om de lodge verder zijn. Bij navraag krijgen we antwoord op onze vragen. Een groter probleem is dat het zwembad zo vies is dat we er geen gebruik van kunnen maken. Dit was juist een van de redenen om voor deze accomodatie te kiezen.|Ook de kamers vielen ons tegen. Dit omdat er naar onze mening best wat in geïnvesteerd mag worden, zoals bijvoorbeeld de gordijnen die kapot zijn en de vieze bruine wc (al komt dat waarschijnlijk door het kalkrijke water), maar dan toch en de vlonder / steiger buiten, die niet solide aanvoelde. De bedden zijn stevig, maar sliepen verder goed.|Een grote plus voor deze lodge is voor de manager/ kok. Zij probeert het je echt naar de zin te maken, lost kleine probleempjes direct op en kan voortreffelijk koken. Ook nog tegen een redelijke prijs, lunch €8,-, diner €14,-.|De tweede dag zijn we wat over het terrein gereden om wat wild te spotten. Helaas was het niet gegund om veel te zien. Je moet er maar geluk mee hebben. Omdat er veel smalle paden zijn en er veel acacias (doornen) groeien, moet je jezelf ook afvragen of je dat wilt, maar je kunt er ook wandelen omdat er geen gevaarlijk groot wild zit.|Verder zijn we nog een kijkje gaan nemen in het ecocenter, waar onderzoek plaats vind. |Al met al een plek met heel veel potentie, maar heeft iemand nodig die met een kritische blik naar de zaken kijkt.
