Beautiful, peaceful and spacious location that was perfect for our large family. Loads of beds, perfect for bigger groups. The animals, particularly the farm animals, were a huge hit with our young kids who spent hours hanging out with the bunnies in particular. The hosts were very attentive and responded immediately when we had an issue. 10/10 for that. We didn't find the road noise from the N1 to be a problem but one of the couples in our group complained about it a bit. The access road is really not that bad, most vehicles will cope fine with it. My only complaints are: The kitchen/dining room needs a re-think in terms of how its space is used. Being winter, we ended up spending most of our time there. We found the kitchen to be extremely cramped. This could be remedied by pushing the two island units outwards. Please also consider swapping the dining room table out for something smaller. An additional couch would be helpful as there was nowhere relaxing to sit if two adults were on the couch. The house in general is quite drafty. The lounge especially so, and for that reason we didn't use it at all. Probably nice in summer but freezing in winter. The house needs a ton of maintenance, eg: The front door jams badly and is almost impossible to close properly. Many sliding doors are so gummed up that they are virtually jammed. The main bedroom shower head is leaking badly from the stem, and it is missing some of its hardware (there's simply an exposed bolt where I think the handheld shower rose should be). The window frame in the shower is also not properly sealed so we got a 2 degree Celcius breeze while showering. That same shower needs some kind of a shelf to store toiletries and sponges/cloths. The main bedroom loo's cistern panel was evidently replaced at some point and the cemented masonry was never painted over (by the way, why are both the loo and bidet so close to the floor?) The chimney flues in the lounge and main bedroom are creaky and very noisy. The guest bathroom tap is dripping. One of the ceiling fans in the double bunk room has faulty light fittings and a broken chain.
The main bedroom desperately needs some kind of ventilation, whether that's an aircon or some windows. We used the fireplace but the supplied wood would not properly take, so it generated tons of smoke and we had no way of airing out the room without opening the sliding doors, which basically don't open. We got badly smoked out, and so did the people in our group in the rooms nearest to the 'old'...
Read moreWe really had a wonderful stay at Kamagu and although the place does need some maintenance, the overall experience far outweighs these little problems. As previous reviews have stated - host was top notch, bedding good quality with electric blankets, enough towels, decent crockery and cutlery. Perhaps some plastic containers could be supplied. I loved that there were ample mirrors and plug points to charge phones and plug in hair-dryers. This is heaven for kids - the icy cold Karoo winter didn't keep them indoors and they were begging to stay longer. All this place is desperately missing is a dishwasher. The single kitchen sink is a nightmare to do dishes in and I'd suggest guests take up the offer of having someone come and do dishes daily, as it's back-breaking trying to fit your head in under the microwave which juts out over the sink. If you don't bend, you can't reach the dishes. Despite this little irritation, we can't wait to come back in summer. Thanks Kerneels for constantly checking up on us to make...
