Tshokane River Camp under the banner of Kruger Untamed is one of those very special places in Kruger that has managed to combine authenticity and comfort to create a camp that seriously shines out above the competition . With so many over the top luxurious super expensive lodges in Kruger this hidden little gem is a breath of fresh air.|You won't find personal plunge pools, endless waterfall showers or spa treatments, but what you will experience is real luxury. Lions, leopards and hyneas calling throughout the night and early mornings, roomy canvas tents and the hottest bucket showers.|There are however three standout points that deserve special mention.|1. The guiding is truly superb, with the walking safaris being the best I have ever done, and I have walked in Zambia and Zimbabwe with some top guides. The walks were fascinating and delivered in a safe controlled manner. My daughter vowed before we left home that she was not under any circumstances walking, yet by the third day she couldn't get enough. My only regret is that I never recorded some of the information we learnt. Our guides, Jayden and Adam were a great team and we learnt so much about tracking, signs and all the little things that make the wild world go round. Fascinating. ||2. Kruger Untamed has after hours access to KNP, and for those who are not in the know this is a huge bonus as you have Kruger all to yourself, including some of the most beautiful lookout spots for sundowners. They also have their own private concession:win win situation. ||3.I usually never mention food in my reviews of safari lodges so long as the food is wholesome, tasty and nutritious I'm satisfied, but every single meal that came out of the camp kitchen was superb. The meals were ingenious, over the top delicious and very generous in sizing.||I have now hesitation whatsoever in recommending this very special camp and intend to return next year and perhaps try out their sister camp Satara...
Read moreLove the concept of a seasonal pop up tented camp in one of the most sought after parts of Kruger, Tshokwane. We spent two nights here and loved every minute of it. The tents are spacious, functional and comfortable. The bathroom has a chemical toilet and a bucket shower of hot water which is delivered at a time that suits you. These both functioned well and this sweet little en suite bathroom made one feel very much part of nature and the African bush. This camp is a fantastic, exciting experience and at night you can hear lions, hyena, elephants just on the other side of the electric fence. ||Game drives were very good, sightings excellent and our guide highly skilled and knowledgeable. We also did a bush walk, something I was apprehensive about but really enjoyed given the enormous amount I learned. We were very well briefed and strict protocols were adhered to. Etienne, our armed ranger and walk leader checked on our levels of fear and worry, he explained outcomes and animal behaviour as we went along and it became obvious that we were in the good hands of a bush pro, a skilled, experienced ranger. We were also accompanied by Vaughan, also an armed ranger, the extra set of eyes and ears needed in this environment. Very privileged we were!||The food was excellent, service warm and sincere, Andrew is an excellent, hands on camp manager (and a former ranger) and things seem to happen seamlessly. The evening fireside seating was divine, just a pity after an exhilarating day one didn’t linger too long … the warm, incredibly comfortable bed was calling each time and the generator turns off at 10pm. ||Cannot...

I can't help but rave about the culinary experience at Kruger Untamed's Tshokwane. The location, nestled deep in the bush, is already breathtaking. But to be treated to such exquisite food at every meal is simply extraordinary. Jacques and Dennis expertly catered to our every taste bud, from the hearty breakfasts to the delectable lunches and unforgettable dinners. I want to extend my sincere gratitude to the entire kitchen and dining team for their exceptional work. Their culinary creations perfectly complemented our safari adventure, making our four days even more memorable. From the bottom of our hearts thank you! Outstanding!
I could continue raving about the experience, having been to some of the best 5* lodges like Londolozi, Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge, this venue, the staff, the experience is absolutely on par! From the Staff behind the scenes Bernie, Jono and the rest, to Seth as your host with most certainly the most, the most incredible guiding experience with Willem - his knowledge and passion is deep rooted and it shows - made for some incredible time game viewing and learning about what Mother Nature has to offer.
