At a Glance: Perched on the Mutlumuvi River in a private concession within the Kruger National Park, Rhino Post Safari Lodge is a stellar way to experience the wonders of the bush with the luxuries of a top tier resort. It is the perfect place to stay in the Kruger National Park, for a litany of reasons: the world-class staff, the wonderful guides, the incredible wildlife, & the privileges of accessibility in a private concession.||The Lodge & Personnel: This lodge is situated right on the banks of the Mutlumuvi River, & during our visit in the dry season, we saw giraffes, vervet monkeys, baboons, elephants, kudu, nyalas, zebra, & bushbuck all in & around the lodge itself. The lodge itself has a wonderful combination of feeling both fresh & new with amazing spaces for high tea, swimming, & fine dining, yet still with that old world “vibe” of wooden boardwalks & thatched roofs, replete with fire pits & spaces for reading. The room was divine, with a massive veranda & amazingly relaxing outdoor shower overlooking the River bed & animals. Can’t be beat!||The Lodge employees are all extremely attentive & caring: Kaizer was an exceedingly gracious & welcoming front manager, while Crystal, Tikai, & James made the dining experiences personal & delightful. The chefs were exquisite: world class, coming to our tables at high tea so we could hear about & select our dinner option for the dining room after the game drive. My dad & I both of our own set of allergy restrictions, & can thus be bit high maintenance in that regard. Yet, they made sure we were very well taken care of, including meals that were both personally tailored but still in line with what everyone else was having, from the snacks at high tea to the last bite of dessert. The soups, bread, & kudu carpaccio were particularly divine. Plus, one dinner we even got to see a genet walk by!||The Game Drives & Personnel: The wildlife encounters are the best in Kruger National Park. We saw a leopard with a kill in a tree—both during the day & at night—tons of Cape buffalo & elephants, & a massive male lion right by the road one morning. We also got to see huge bull kudu, coffee & sundowners with hippos, zebra & impala everywhere, crocodiles, & sable antelopes, which I was not at all expecting. The great thing about being in the concession was the ability to drive at special times: at night (seeing a leopard at night is just the best) & super early in the morning when animals were still lying on the warmth of the road before the crowds arrived. The other advantage was the ability to access areas & roads not normally accessible, including great watering holes for sundowners. ||Our ranger/guide/driver, Sorta, was the real treat of it all. She was a veritable font of knowledge & expertise, always personable and caring, & very skilled at navigating, tracking, & positioning the vehicle for the best animal sightings, all while being respectful of the wildlife & their home. She knew where to go & when so as to maximize our game viewing & keep our safety as the top priority. She can also make fantastic coffee & sundowner drinks. An example of her awesomeness: one morning my dad was feeling ill from the anti-malaria medication, & she pulled over to personally help him get sorted out & back on track. Just so helpful & knowledgeable!||Conclusion: Rhino Post Safari Lodge is a must when visiting the Kruger National Park! From the amazing hotel staff to the top-tier guides to the amazing wildlife & the unrivaled access to being with them in their own home. ||Would that I could give more than five stars, but TripAdvisor’s website precludes me from expressing the full extent of my gratitude & appreciation. Read moreMy husband and I were so fortunate to visit Rhino Post Safari Lodge for our honeymoon and my husband's birthday, and it exceeded even our very high expectations.
First and foremost, I would like to start with the staff: I cannot imagine a warmer, more welcoming, or more attentive group of people. Every single person we interacted with that worked with Rhino Post greatly enhanced our experience. The staff even made a cake and sang a beautiful song for my husband's birthday that brought us both to tears. The food was also incredible. We were lucky enough to get to meet three different guides: Sorta and James on our game drives, as well as Greg, who took us on private birding drives. All three were insanely knowledgeable, wonderfully passionate about and respectful of nature, funny, and impressive in their abilities to adapt to needs of different guests - I wish we could have had more time with all three of them!
The location is beautiful, and the rooms are lovely as well - we did a decent amount of research into our options beforehand and decided we ideally wanted a good level of comfort and luxury without sacrificing all sense of authenticity / being in the bush (we weren't looking to just stay at a luxury spa lodge with a hint of safari theme), and Rhino Post perfectly delivered here. There was so much attention to detail throughout the rooms and the rest of the lodge that helped to ensure comfort and luxury, while still being able to feel like we were in nature. I also really appreciated how things like dinner were organized to encourage mingling amongst the guests (as a strong introvert, I wouldn't have initially selected for this, but because of this setup, we met some absolutely lovely people that I very much hope to stay in touch with).
My only regrets are that I wish we'd had more time there, and I wish we'd prioritized also having some time at the Plains Camp so that we could explore a bit more by foot, but that will be top of the list...
Read moreWhat a wonderful, memorable place to stay. ||A small private lodge, 8 rooms for 16 people, with its own private concession within the Kruger National Park. The accommodation was first class. 2 large queen sized beds, bath and outdoor shower and our own private deck area overlooking the watering hole. ||We had 4 nights here and saw some unforgettable sights. The big 5 in one day, and we loved our sleep out under the stars overlooking a watering hole, listening to the lions roaring during the night. Including a wonderful 3 course barbecue dinner cooked by Albie under a starlit sky. The sun rises and sunsets over the Park were stunning.||Superb staff, both the catering and housekeeping, nothing was too much trouble. Always smiling and laughing. The food was delicious, with plenty of choice for your evening meal. ||Brunch on your return from the morning game drive included fruit, yoghurt, full English and a Continental option and high tea before heading out for the afternoon drive. ||Our Guide, Fabian, had an encyclopaedic knowledge of the birds and mammals within the park. No 2 game drives covered the same ground and were meticulously planned, taking into account the weather/wind conditions, ensuring that we saw as many animals/birds conditions as was possible during the drives, tailoring them to our requests of what we would like to see. He also acted as our private waiter on our last night. Nothing was too much trouble for him, identifying the numerous birds we saw to keeping us safe by escorting us to our room every night. A brilliant Safari Guide who I cannot recommend highly enough. ||10 out of 10 for The Rhino Post Safari Lodge and all the staff involved in...
