What Happened:
We were staying at a wonderful neighboring lodge called Lekkerwater. We responsibly informed the lodge upon our arrival that we were coping with Covid and taking all the precautions to keep staff and customers safe. We have had 4 covid vaccination. They thoughtfully accommodated us. We stayed in our room and they served our meals there. The day before leaving Lekkerwater they informed Morokuru Lodge regarding our situation. There was no response. Keep in mind both these lodges are more than 2 hours down a remote road. While we were headed to Morukuru Lodge the next day we were informed by the Lekkerwater staff that we would not be allowed to stay there. This was problematic because we now had nowhere to stay and we were in a remote area. We called our travel agent and she found us something but it was 3 hours away! Our travel agent informed us that they would not be refunding our deposit in full.
What could they have done differently...
1.) First, they could have responded to the email that was sent a day before apprising them of the situation.
2.) They could have called us directly and apologetically explained why they could not accommodate us like Lekkerwater since their facility was much larger and apparently better suited for social distancing and general safety. Earlier in the week we had a dining reservation La Columbe a superior dining restaurant in Cape Town. When we let them know we were not feeling well they were extremely gracious, wished us well, and returned our deposit in full.
3.) They could have refunded the whole amount given that they belatedly refused to allow us to stay there. This would have allowed us time to explore alternatives.
What could we have done differently?
We could have simply been irresponsible and kept our medical status private and headed over to our stay MoruKuru Lodge.
The bottom line is this could have been much more courteously and professionally handled. Shame for abandoning your clients and for avoiding and dealing with them directly!
As a result of this appalling experience our travel agent well known in the business in South Africa will no longer be booking and or sending business to your accommodation.
We are going to bring a group of six with us next year to your lodge but now we will be looking for places that don't abandon...
Read moreGraciously tucked away in the De Hoop Nature Reserve, this dream destination offers more than an escape, or a relaxing break away. When you visit Morukuru Family De Hoop you feel like you’re home, at one with nature and as if time stands still, and really none of your trivial daily stress feels relevant anymore. Perhaps it’s the beautifully scenic winding sand road that leads you to this hidden gem along the most beautiful shoreline and fynbos covered landscape. Perhaps it’s the peacefulness that captures you, but let me tell you, it’a something you only feel when you experience it for yourself.
Everything about this place is beyond 5 star! From the staffs’ warm and enthusiast spirits, that exhibit that no request is too much trouble, to the superb service and cleanliness all round. We loved how kitted out the activities room was with all the marine shoes and equipment, and sand boards you could ask for. The boys sand boarded for hours on end and had their boards waxed by the staff many times over, with no objection or need to hurry them along. Every effort is made to ensure that each activity is enjoyable and fascinating, led by our guide Corne who is impressively knowledgeable about all things fauna and flora surrounding the resort.
The food is a culinary journey of flavours that keeps you wondering what they’ll whip up for the next meal, and you’re never disappointed. The dining areas are so well decorated and extremely cozy, flaunting the most magnificent views, and alfresco dining for breakfast and lunch. Your daily schedule is carefully curated factoring in weather, tides and the wind so that you experience the best that Morukuru has to offer. Every detail is thought of with small gifts and extra special touches, and at the hint of the boys asking when they can sand board again, Corne promised to take them to the long dunes, which believe me is no easy feat for the guide (or parents), entailing long, steep walks up a dune, straight into strong winds, carrying all the equipment, but yet again, nothing is too much effort for this incredible team. The boys said it was the best weekend of their lives and if they could time travel they would keep going back to the day they arrived so they could live here forever! I must agree, I would be a very happy person living in this little piece of...
Read moreFrom the moment I arrived at Morukuru Family De Hoop, I knew I was in for a special stay. The staff were absolutely incredible — warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and always ready to go the extra mile to make me feel at home. Every request was met with a smile, and every interaction left me more impressed than the last.||||My room was breathtaking: spacious, beautiful, and exquisitely decorated. The décor blended seamlessly with the natural surroundings, and moments like opening the sliding doors to see ocean, dunes, and fynbos right outside were magical. The comfort, attention to detail, and quiet luxury made it feel like I had landed in a private sanctuary.||||I came for just a couple of nights, but the schedule was full of some of the most memorable activities I’ve ever done:||• The marine walks were fascinating — educational yet fun. Corné was an amazing and knowledgeable guide, leading me through tide pools, spotting starfish, octopus, urchins, and teaching me about marine life in its natural habitat — I was completely hooked.||• The nature drives and fynbos walks opened my eyes to the diversity of the reserve: birds, insects, wildflowers, sometimes even a shy antelope or two.||• And sandboarding! Such a blast. Racing down dunes, feeling the wind, pure joy — especially with the staff cheering me on (and waxing boards for better speed) just made it all the more fun.||||Although my stay was short, every moment felt substantial. Whether exploring the beach, relaxing on the deck, or enjoying spectacular meals, the experience was top-tier. Morukuru Family De Hoop isn’t just a place to stay — it’s a place to be inspired, to reconnect with nature, and to create lasting memories. I can’t wait to return. Highly, highly...
