Dear Guy, Lauren, Estrella and Norman, thank you for an unforgettable, memorable stay that we'd love to repeat soon.
After a very very (VERY) long trip all the way from the East Rand, Gauteng, we arrived in the Biedouw valley as the sun set. We have to say, the last 25km gravel road to Enjo was grueling and slow, but the days that followed made up for it more than tenfold! We loved every day, hour and minute. From the welcoming faces and a quick tour on our arrival, to the lovely, fully equipped Oak cottage.
The sunrises and sunsets were spectacular. The full moon put on a show with a few shy stars. The horses, deer, birds, and dogs came to visit often and we heard the sheep, chickens and even owls. Mini and Bok became our watchdogs, checking in regularly but Flash stayed a little cautious of us and made sure to announce our arrival at the farmhouse and the cat ruled the pergola.
The honesty shop was well stocked and the complimentary local rooibos tea (or coffee/black tea) while we made use of the wifi, to let loved ones know we're alive and very well, went down as well as the lovely rosemary focaccia bread Lauren made us.
I have to make a special mention of Norman's olives: he was very kind to share what he has learned from the previous season of picking and preserving the olives that grow around the farmhouse, and if I had tasted the bottle of olives I bought before we left, I would probably have cleared out his stock!
Thank you for the travel advice and points of interest in the area for our further travels. The whole area is truly a gem in the Western Cape.
If you want a 5-star skyrise hotel, drive on or stay at home and keep working. But, if you want a simple, peaceful breakaway to wind down and go back to basics, in a quaint little cottage, on a real farm in the picturesque Bidouw Valley, Enjo Nature Farm is the place to go!
We plan on recommending Enjo to anyone and everyone that would listen and that would like to break out of the concrete-jungle mold! A short while without cellphone reception brought great peace and tranquility during our stay.
Thank you and take...

Read moreIf you're looking for a peaceful family breakaway on a lovely farm with even lovelier hosts, then the road trip to Enjo comes highly recommended. We took the 3-hour journey by car with the kids in early December and with all the exciting stops along the way, it was a blast! Our first stop was at Desert Rose Farm Stall for lunch, then again in Clanwilliam for some odds and ends before heading over the Pakhuis pass on to the Biedouw Valley. ||||Once we reached Enjo, we were shown to our "Annex", a self-catering cottage attached to the big farmhouse. This was perfect for our family and had its own fire pit and braai area, and closest to the pool. The kids loved being woken up by the horses grazing right in front of our door every morning. In fact, they got so close to the farm animals, they almost didn't want to leave. We spent our days on the farm at the big pool which has both hot and cold water facilities and I especially enjoyed lazing about on the deck chairs with a glass of wine at sunset. The kids also had fun canoeing in the dam. There was never a dull moment.||||Although deep in the Cederberg mountains, it was easy to explore the surrounding areas in the region from Enjo Farm, and even though we didn't make it to Wupperthal or the Private Cellar this time (the highest wine cellar in South Africa, we'll definitely return to our farmer friends to explore the rest of their beautiful region. We did, however, get to experience the Sevilla Rock Art Trail, also not far from Enjo, and was one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments for our whole family. ||||Beware there is about 30 minutes of gravel road on what's known as the gravel pass before reaching Enjo in the Biedouw Valley when coming from Clanwilliam. ||||I hope you enjoy your adventures at Enjo Nature farm as much as we did,...
