We had a great stay at Rondeberg in February 2021. Here are the positives: Incredible location: Set on the Bulshoek Dam, beautiful mountain, clean, clear waters in which to swim. Options: You can camp or caravan in a general camping area which is on grass, with own braai area, electricity and super clean communal ablutions. You can also book a private or luxury private camp site, which is sort of a mix between a chalet & camping. It is comprised of a one-bedroom building, with an open plan braai area, kitchen and bathroom. What makes it cool, is that you can also pitch a tent outside on the grass. It’s sort of the best of both worlds if you have people who don’t want to camp or don’t own their own camping gear, they stay inside, and those who want to camp can camp outside, but you chill in the same braai area/kitchen. There are also 2, 4, 6 & 8 sleeper self catering chalets and stone cottages (which are very cool!). I believe that the show piece is the 9 sleeper waterfront house, which literally borders the dam and looked very nice. Service: We experience great service throughout the booking process and check in. The shop is organised, has wood, ice, cool drinks, ice creams and other braai spices, olive oil, etc. There was a massive birthday party going on with about 40 students, who pumped the music really late the Friday night, however the owners came down and sorted it out in no time once complaints were made and the same thing did not happen the following night. Kids: The dam has a great beach/grass bank and is perfect for kid to swim as the damn drops off extremely slowly and safely, so it’s great for young kids. There is also a playground too. Amenities: Very nice swimming pool is a bonus! Here are the Negatives: One slight downside is that the general camp sites are very close together and don’t have much shade. I’d definitely opt for a private camp site when I return (and we will!). It could work if you and 4 or 5 other families want to block off 5 sites next to each other, but it’s a bit too close for comfort in my opinion. Definitely not a deal-breaker though, this is place is jacked up and great!! Another downside is that they only allow 6 max per campsite. This doesn’t really make sense at the Luxury Private Campsite, because it means you cannot have 2 x families of 4. Having said that, they granted us special permission to camp with 2 adults & 2 kids (in one tent) along with your friends (4 pax) which was really awesome of them. Tips: Shoot for K10 Luxury Private Camp or Stone Cottage 1,2 or 3. Those were my favourite - close to the pool, plenty of shade and a short walk to the dam!

Great place for a few days. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Kids can run around and place with their friends. Place to go hike for the while family. If you forgot something you can do a quick drive to super Spar in Clanwilliam. The stone cottages are fun and rustic. The camping sites was not used by us but our friends enjoyed it. Kayaking is great fun for the kids. There were some boats on the dam and some people were skiing. We tried to fish but had no luck as the kayaks and the boats likely kept the fish away. The chalets were also very modern. Water was clean and the kids could swim in the dam. We visited just after a major storm so the pool water was muddy. The team on site was working hard to clean it. It is just bad luck. The pool is next to stone cottage no3. Kids however preferred the dam as it was much more fun. The younger kids did some rock climbing near the dam. Loads of fun. We felt very safe and comfortable as there were no unwanted visitors. Well maintained rooms, with clean bedding and towels. Microwaves and kettles are also provided. Stone cottage 3 had the tree in the bathroom so had an outside feel but with the privacy. If you are shy perhaps not for you. The kitchen was well equipped and stone cottage 3 had a small stove as well. We did not have to use the aircon due to the weather being low 20 c. Phone signal not that great but you have wifi in the chalets and the cottages. Signal is lost from time to time but good to unplug for all the data overflow. Would recommend this place for families and groups. Just book in advance to ensure you are not disappointed.

Stunning resort for families to enjoy, it’s very well maintained with lush green grass, plenty of rocks to climb and explore. The jungle gym is quite plain, with swings and climbing bars, there’s a lovely pool to enjoy in summer. I’d recommend taking outdoor activities with for the kids like a ball, beach tennis, bucket and spade, bikes etc. You can also feed the ducks and birds! We stayed in the stone cottage 3, which has a tree in the bathroom! Such a novelty which my son loved! Adorable cottage with very comfortable beds, (1x double and 1x single) it was surprisingly warm at night, considering it’s a stone house we thought it would be colder inside. ( we stayed middle on august) The pillows aren’t great so only thing I’d recommended brining from home. Keep an eye on loadshedding schedule to stay prepared. The kitchen is very basic but if you plan on using the braai predominantly for meals, and take ready made potato salads/garlic bread etc then you’ll be fine. Take essentials like spices/tea/coffee/milk. The fridge is also small so don’t take too much that needs to be kept cold, or take an extra cooler box. If you don’t feel like cooking breakfast, id recommend Veldskoendraai padstal for breakfast which was only 20min drive away, amazing space for kids to play, lovely shop to buy cute souvenirs and delicious food! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! My son loved it! Such a lekka summer camping or holiday destination for families. It’s also my husbands favourite place to bass fish so it’s a win for all. We can’t wait to plan our next trip there 😊

Scenic Beauty Overshadowed by Management Lapses at Rondeberg Resort

As an avid camper, I approached my stay at Rondeberg Resort with excitement, drawn by its promise of a tranquil environment. Unfortunately, the experience was less than ideal, marred by several management and operational oversights.

Noise Control: A Major Concern The resort's advertised quiet policy was in stark contrast to the reality. Days were plagued by constant and excessive noise from children, starting early and continuing late into the night. This disturbance was compounded by a group playing loud music past midnight. My attempts to address the noise via WhatsApp were met with a delayed response, citing an after-hours policy. The limited cell reception made communication challenging, significantly detracting from the peaceful camping experience I sought.

Barge Rental: An Odyssey of Mishaps The barge rental experience, intended to be a highlight, turned into a series of mishaps. Delays in key handover and issues with a drained battery due to poor maintenance checks marked the beginning of troubles. Despite assurances, we faced a fuel outage and later, engine power issues. The ineffective rescue attempts and lack of proper management response to this ordeal were disappointing.

Limited Store Offerings The on-site store offers only basic necessities, falling short of expectations. Essential camping items were notably missing. Additionally, be aware that the store and office are closed on Saturdays, which can be inconvenient for campers.

Campsite Maintenance While the campsites are well-grassed and flat, the maintenance service is inconsistent. Cleaning services for amenities like barbecues were erratic, and waste collection times varied without a set schedule.

Ablutions Under Renovation Uninformed about the ongoing renovations, I found the ablution facilities functional but lacking in dishwashing facilities. Advance notice of such renovations would have been appreciated for better planning.

Connectivity Issues Contrary to the resort's advertisements, cell and Wi-Fi connectivity is extremely limited, confined to specific areas. This proved challenging for those, like myself, needing to work remotely.

In summary, while Rondeberg Resort boasts a beautiful natural setting, its potential is significantly undermined by management inefficiencies. Attention to enforcing rules, improving facilities, and customer service is crucial for enhancing the experience for...

Our worst experience during three months of a beautiful journey in western Cape. We booked for a chalet and the picture on the web site suggest a chalet like many others we booked before visiting Rondeberg resort. First bad surprise the chalet is nothing more than a small hotel room with a basic kitchen next to the bed. Very little space to store our stuff; shelves and mugs dirty. The price nevertheless is matching the price of the beautiful and well equipped chalets where we stayed previously. I missed reading a small line at the end of of the last webpage and discovered on the spot that barbecue tools were not included in the inventory; that was also the first time this basic tools were not provided since we toured South Africa. We are hikers and were attracted by the fact that Rondeberg resort advertise for an hiking trail within the property. We found the hiking trail eventually after much difficulty...good luck if you are looking for it; we were just lucky to find it as the trail is poorly marked. Good news; the trail is beautiful and worth the time it took us to spot it. The deceiving experience was not over; the lady working at the resort office called us as we were heading to the next place of our journey; claiming that plates mugs glasses were missing; with a tone of voice that suggested that we were the one enjoying now these few things. I had to explain that due to the extremely small space in the room I stored whatever was not necessary under the sink to be able to organize our stuff. The lady was extremely unpleasant pretending that the manager himself was looking for the precious items and did not find it either. The next day new call from the same lady, explaining that as they did not do any inventory before we checked in, they would write off the items; we did not really see the point of her bringing up this issue with us since she clearly admitted the staff did not do things properly. no even a word of apology from her We never experienced such rudeness after decades of travelling in Africa and other continents. This was the bitter cherry on the cake; a pity; beautiful scenery around the resort but our first and last stay in Rondeberg resort. We wouldn't'...
