We arrived to do the skill training for gravel riding at the Boulders Adventure Academy. The accommodation is self contained lodges which have everything you need and more. They are well appointed, clean and neat. As we were on a training package, all our meals were included so we never needed the well stocked kitchenette. Our lodge consisted of a private entrance, separate bedroom, bathroom with a shower and the lounge area with fireplace [needed in winter] alongside the kitchenette with sink, fridge, crockery, cutlery and pots. There is a private patio which allows for stunning views. The website has photos which are true to reality! Mike and Nadine Grimsted are wonderful hosts and as a breakaway from the stresses of modern living, they can offer it all. There is a dam with fish, ducks, birds a-plenty and there are many varieties of indigenous trees and flowers. The property has 8 trails on it which I am sure could be ridden by motorbike or cycle or walked. The environment offers some of the most amazing sandstone rock formations I seen in South Africa and the road from Clarens to Boulders offers spectacular views of pristine mountains and landscapes. I can see artists and writers loving this place. It's quiet and the solitude is real. The property contains hidden gems that Mike can point out to you. The lodges are self-catering and Clarens is only 30 kms away if you need supplies or some commercial retail therapy. However when booking ask if they have any special packages going with food included as Nadine is an amazing cook. The food that comes out of her kitchen is excellent. For us, we arrived as guests and left as friends. And will certainly be...
Read moreWe had a weekend of duel purpose motorcycle training at Boulders Lodge and boy was this great. Hats off to Mike and Nadine Grimstead for a well planned and organized adventure weekend and the assistance of David Pestana also a very good rider that assists with the training and does the photography. I never in my life thought that I could learn so much about riding a motorcycle, off-road, in one weekend as I did. We really enjoyed it thoroughly and have become way better skilled riders. Nadine does the catering for the training days and I must admit we did have great food, you'll never go hungry, thanks Nadine. Mike Grimstead is an internationally accredited Instructor with BMW Motorrad International Instructor Academy, and he knows his stuff, what a great guy. At Boulders Lodge they don't only do motorcycle training it is also a self-catering lodge where you can stay for a weekend or longer in well appointed accommodation overlooking the mountains near the Lesotho border close to the town of Fouriesburg in the Southern Freestate, they also offer walking trails, horse riding, fishing and bird watching. Please visit www.boulderssa.co.za for all their contact detail and feel free to contact them for any assistance, they answer all your...
Read moreWe stayed (4 of us) during a long weekend. The cottage has lovely views and is nice and peaceful. There are lovely walks on the farm which we enjoyed. the beds were comfy and we loved the electric blankets. There is a fireplace in the lounge/kitchen area and Mike supplied some firewood for us to use, which was very welcome when the weather changed. Maverick, their friendly dog was always welcome to pop in and visit which he did frequently. ||We enjoyed our stay but found that the lighting, both in the bedrooms and the living area was inadequate, it was impossible to read (there's no TV) without using another light which fortunately we had brought with us. There were no other lights provided for use during loadshedding except for a candle? If we had not brought torches etc with us we would have been sitting in the dark.||The kitchen was reasonably well equipped and the lighting was better. Thanks for the lovely homemade rusks and an...
