Restaurant at the hotel
We have been visiting the restaurant in the hotel the past 10 years. Always had good burgers and waffles. At one stage the hotel had an excellent Sunday breakfast buffet. Always had excellent service from the 2 main waiters and a man manager with glasses. Given the kitchen has always been slow, anything from 50 – 100 min for food. I would not leave a bad review if it was the first or 3rd bad experience. So it is with a heavy heart that I am doing this, in the hope that they will up their game. We went there for Father’s Day. What a disaster. I booked in front of the fire; our guests were told we I did not book. We were the second table to arrive; there was already a table with 2. Our waiter almost got all drink and food orders wrong. Clearly, he was employed for the day to help out. Why did the manager not help him or use him for cleaning the tables. We waited more than 70 min for our food. The bread in the baskets on our table was nice. We received our starter and main course together, take into account it was a very cold day. The soup was so tick you could not pour it out of the cup, the bread sticks looked nice, but was sour, like “off” sour, not sourdough sour. The main course was steak and prawns in a barbeque sauce poured I guess from a 10l bottle… very strong. The chips ordered were still raw, ribs burned. The other family at our table got the wrong orders, and no starter, that they did order. The “manager” did appear a while after half the table received food, asking if everything was okay, we said no, she apologised and said the waiter was new. She came back a second time, asked if we were happy now, we said no, she said but she did apologise. At that stage the one father still had not receive ANY food (starter or main). His steak eventually arrived after everyone else was done eating. It was supposed to be medium to well done steak, he send it back twice, still to receive a VERY medium rare steak. This was supposed to be a meal with friends celebrating Father’s...
Read moreSaturday 26 October. Called from the road and booked a room with Marcus. Rate is R800 he said but I’ll upgrade you to Room 19 for the same rate instead of charging R1050. Sounds good. Checked in. Room 19 is squalid. It’s less than 20 square metres – cannot swing a cat. Loose electrical wires hanging off the walls. TV not plugged in. Wall safe does not work. No aircon. No fan. No bottle of water in the fridge. Different taps on the basin. The shower needs to be scrubbed with bleach. Call Marcus. He plugs in the TV. We don’t put fans in the rooms because people steal them. Gives me a 250ml bottle of water. Gee thanks for nothing. The last time that room was painted was never. The door is cracked with peeling paint. No two pin plug next to the bed. But hey – we’re a country inn so we charge what we like and the suckers will cough up. Windhoek Draught in a bottle R45 – seriously??? Breakfast. The serving area is just grubby and nasty. Peeling wallpaper, floors in need of sanding and varnishing. Cupboard doors that last saw paint 10 years ago. Fruit salad from a can. Instead of yummy back bacon or streaky bacon that horrible catering bacon which is just sliced pork. The whole joint looks and feels run down. The gardener if there is one need to be fired. I pointed all this out to Karin – I’m the new manager – and asked her to get Rene Scheepers the owner to call me. 10 days later – still no call. Oh ya – Marcus was a liar – the rate for room 19 was not R1050. It was R800. That joint will not see me again unless it’s had a complete makeover. If I could rate...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed 2 nights, arriving at 3PM with a rental car and parking in the interior lot. At the restaurant reception, a pleasant lady copied my passport and checked the prepaid voucher, as I signed a waiver sheet, before presenting a large key. The friendly manager escorted us across the grass to the stone entry house with a nice lounge. Room “Legends” was carpeted and spacious with a comfortable king, nice closet, antique desk and chair, 2 large sitting chairs, then a sliding barn door into a fully outfitted bathroom with tub and stall shower. ||The nicely decorated room was quiet, had nice hot water, satellite TV(SABC, 2 movies, 3 sports and 5 more channels) and good open WIFI at the restaurant, since our building's router wasn’t working.||Their restaurant opens at 6AM for a la carte breakfast selections in their dining room. Later in their bar, we sampled their excellent menu for lunch that extends to dinner.||Pleasant personalities extend throughout this well managed hotel,...
