We decided as a family to spend my father in law's 70th birthday at Mont Plaisir guestfarm. We were 5 families which included 6 children between the ages of 5 and 8yrs and 2 teenagers. We booked the farmhouse, chalet, field cottage and rondavel. We communicated beforehand with Mark and Anne-Marie to inform them about our plans.||Great was the disappointment when we finally reached Mont plaisir. The name board was bearly visible from the main road and Google maps directed us to the neighboring farm. ||The farm didn't look like the photos on the web page. Well done to the photographer who managed to fool us a little bit. The garden was unkept and the lawn wasn't even mowed. Not something that I would expect from a guestfarm catering for tourists. ||Mark was not as friendly and helpful as in all the reviews on the web. It seemed as if he was quite irritated with us. We asked a few questions but it seems that the rules, that we couldn't find anywhere on paper were set in stone. We had a bush trailor that we wanted to set up under a tree on the big open piece of veld in front of our chalet as it provided a lot of shade for 20 people. As the lapa was too small for us and on the other side of the house where there as no view or braai. We didn't sleep in the trailor. It felt like Mark spied on us the whole time. We were paying guests after all. We had a fridge in the trailor that operated from a battery. We wanted to charge it from a plug on our stoep, but that was also a problem. By the way we were paying for our accomodation....||Every night after 7 Mark was patrolling the area with his dog. It felt like he was monitoring our movement to see if we were not out of order. ||We celebrated my father in law's birthday on the 21st. We informed them about this on our arrival as we might be a little bit noisy. The respond from Anne-marie was that we wouldn't bother them at all as they hear nothing in the house. Suprise, surprise! ||We braaied in front of the chalet while 2 girls of 6 yrs were giggling and playing in the house. Next thing Mark appeared to inform us that the children are making too much noise. ||||If me and my family were not part of a bigger group we would have left on day 1. We were paying guests and felt like intruders. No warm welcome or making us feel at home. ||I will definitly not recommend this guest farm to anybody. Good luck with your business. With behaviour like this you will not get far. A bit of finesse, accomodating behaviour and friedliness will make a big difference. Luckily for you we were foolish enough to book almost the whole facility for our family event....
Read moreMy hubby and I booked the room on the stoep of the main house at over R700 a night.||||We called beforehand to find out if there are facilities to braai and prepare breakfast and received a response in the affirmative from Mark.||||Lo and behold, apart from a kettle that had a cord spanning across the wardrobe so you can't open the latter, there was no crockery nor fridge nor cooking facilities. Mark did offer us the use of a small bar fridge on the stoep and the use of the rondavel's kitchen but it was inconvenient.||The room, painted in an awful dirty pink, was a mix of 'hand me down' mismatched items. The magazines were all over 10 years old!. Old, clumpy feather pillows were, to say the least, a rats nest of dust and allergies! ||||The bathroom had a very unpleasant sewerage smell. On closer inspection, my hubby found that the drain breather pipe opened up inside the bathroom vanity!||||We stayed for two nights and there was never any room service. We had to make our own beds and wash our own breakfast bowls/cups. ||||We were the only guests. Yet, despite our obvious discomfort, we were not offered an upgrade to a stand-alone unit with proper facilities.||||The gates were worst for wear and cumbersome to open and close. The gardens were unkept. We understand that the area is going through a very dry spell but seriously! Tidy up the beds, take out some weeds and mow the lawn at least!||||For the price you pay, this place is definately not value for money. Add to it the owners' cool reception, I can unfortunately not...
Read moreWe had a superb two night stay at Mont Plaisir. Far too short for exploring the many attractions close by. Anne Marie & Mark are great hosts & ensure that you have the perfect stay. Some great suggestions from them on places to visit in the area. We stayed in the Field Cottage which is about 200m away from the main house & other accommodation. Every thing is seen to in the units & there was nothing that we were short off. The fire place & electric blankets ensure that you are warm & cozy in the evenings. We have already spoken to our friends about this establishment & are looking forward to using Mont Plaisir as our base point when we do an Afriski trip, witch is a mere 90km away from them.||A BIG Thank you to Mark & Anne Marie for being such warm & welcoming hosts, loved chatting with them & getting to know their fur buddies better as well :-) :-) hope to see you guys in the...
