Before booking I read a lot of reviews, and have to agree it is beautiful and peaceful. However a few things I wish I knew before I booked. The venue does not offer any of the multiple activities on the website. It's on a "bring your own" base. Bring your own, horse, quad, 4x4 and do your own thing. Was actually specifically looking for a place to keep my kids busy with activities. Owner on holiday so person that met us at reception tried his best, but was really not the best communicator. For the rate I paid I would have wanted to be met by somebody that could answer some of the questions we had (wifi/horse riding/4x4) Reason we booked this farm was for horse riding. Only to realize when we got there that we had to bring our own horses. Guy in reception said only 15min guided pony walks can be arranged. Being unsure we asked 2 more staff members we ran into, and got different answers. Ended up driving to Golden gate to do horse riding. Decided to do 4x4. There is no maps or and no markings. Drove 2km's and didnt feel safe to continue, mainly due to us being 1 vehicle and there being no comms. Critical to note NO SIGNAL. You are in roaming and i'm stuck now with a R1k bill. Both me and my wife still had to do work remotely. Was told to leave our unit unlocked on friday for the cleaning service. Arrived 19:00 in the dark to find our unit open and no cleaning done. Wanted to use this place as a base to drive in and out of Clarens as i'm sure lots of people do. Road seems better than previous comments but still bad. Decided saturday morning to make the best of our beautiful surroundings and drive out for a picnic with a stunning view. Within 30min's 3 small kids from Lesotho came up to us looking for money. They couldnt speak or understand us so we gave them R5 each and they left. About 30mins later 3 adult males with sticks approached us. Feeling unsafe we got in the car and left. They ran after us shouting MONEY MONEY and waving their sticks.

This was the last so we packed up and left a day early.

Beautiful and remote yes. Unit also pretty good. Really just not a fit for what we were...

I took my family to Old Mill Drift for our first camping holiday and what a wonderful experience it is. Old Mill Drift is a real working farm, nestled between the mountains outside of Clarens, with the most beautiful views that anyone could ask for. Our daughters aged 13 and 7, have never had a real camping experience before and what a perfect introduction it was on this huge and lush farm. From the beautiful views, to the scenic hikes, seeing all the various farm animals pass by herded by shepherds on a daily basis, to the clearest starry skies each night while we sat around the fire chatting and playing cards, this place is definitely an absolutely wonderful experience for those looking to relax, unwind and get in touch with nature and bond with those close to you. I would recommend to anyone. ||||Staff members, and farm workers were all so welcoming, friendly and eager to assist and really made the experience feel like we were part of the family. Derek the farm manager was absolutely awesome. I really cant say enough about how helpful and accommodating he was and came to check on us regularly to make sure we were happy. The ablution blocks were very clean and well-kept and so were the campsites.||||I've read a few reviews where people complained about the dirt road into Old Mill Drift. While I wouldn't go there in a sedan without a fair amount of ground clearance as it is quite something, I feel the road into Old Mill Drift really adds to the excitement, adventure and experience. We went in a Ford Figo, which is not an SUV and we were just fine.||||My family and I will definitely be returning as...

Quite mixed feelings about this one. Don’t be fooled what their website advertises. The entire farm looks as if it is in pristine condition, but when we arrived it was quite almost the opposite. The houses look like they are falling apart, the website advertises them as they are separate from each other, which they are not. They advertise the farm as a ‘world class fishing experience’ with ‘multiple dams to fish from’ which could not be further from the truth. The river is overgrown, and the dams they advertise are non-existent with the exception of one, which we were told we aren’t allowed to fish in even though they keep ons advertising it? The fridge in the caravan wasn’t working, nor the lights, and when we asked them very politely to fix it they just didn’t bother. The caravan door couldn’t lock. Wifi is advertised, but it is only available at select areas, and if you want to use the wifi you have to pay R50 to get access to it and then you only have 1GB to use. The view in the area is quite nice, except for the massive eye sore that is the newly built roads you can see in Lesotho. The roads were in very poor condition.

I truly believe the people at the farm are very kind and welcoming people and I loved the fact that there are friendly dogs that come and greet you. But please, fix your website because that is blatantly false advertisement, and please do some renovations to the farm to make it more accessible and please upgrade the facilities.

I would like to revisit the farm someday, especially when the Fishing is what they advertise it to be. At the moment, I would not recommend...

We had a truly amazing experience at the Old Mill drift Guest Farm. The accommodation is rustic, but with everything you might need. The instructions on their website is also thorough, giving you an idea of what to bring and expect. Yvonne and the staff were so helpful and friendly, making us feel at home on this working farm. We were lucky to be there when a little fowl was born. Such a cool experience to see the baby on day one and then see it's first time going out in the field. I can highly recommend this for anyone looking for an amazing countryside break. There is very little cellphone reception and you end up roaming on the Lesotho Vodacom tower. Make sure to switch Data Roaming off. The guest lodge does sell access to their wifi, if needed. The road to the lodge starts as a 7km tar road (lots of potholes) and then the last bit is 3km of dirt road. Make sure to chat to the team to find out the state of the road. We did it in a slightly raised car, without any issues. No 4x4 needed when we went. We also so some standard VW polos, so not an issue. The mountains and trails are spectacular. Definitely worth a visit to this pet friendly lodge.

Old Mill Drift is a beautiful, peaceful guest farm with amazing views (!!) and a scenic route to the farm. I am a single female traveller and I took my small dog with me. They were helpful and accommodating, making sure I was comfortable and happy. I felt safe walking the beautiful hikes and around the farm. The lovely farm dogs joined whenever they had a chance. The last 3 km to the farm is a dirt and gravel road. I drive a Ford figo and could manage the road easy enough, with only one spot where my car (sometimes) scraped underneath. Just make sure to follow the road signs for smaller cars. I stayed in the forest chalet which was modern, clean and comfy, with a kaggel keeping the whole unit warm for the colder nights. It is close to Clarens and Fouriesburg for extra exploring. I would recommend anyone to go here and definitely go again myself! Thank you so much for the stay on your farm, I absolutely loved it!

We had a phenomenal time at Old Mill Drift. The friendly dogs were always there to greet us in the campsite when we woke up. The bike rides along the river front tracks were very enjoyable and uncovered dramatic views over every climb. We enjoyed the dogs company on our rides too. Fly fishing on the Caledon was challenging but rewarding. Even when you're not catching, it's enjoyable. My son did a horse riding lesson on one of the Basotho Ponies, which he loved. The only thing which drew a small black mark on our stay, but was out of their control, was the construction happened in Lesotho which spoiled the serenity of the place.
