Saturday morning we scrolled across a Facebook advertisement for Brookdale Estate and to our amazement they still had a table available for lunch. Google Maps guided us straight to the hidden gem and with a short drive through manicured gardens we arrived at the wine tasting and restaurant. Once we ordered a welcome bread nibble with flavoured butter and olives arrived. Followed by our drinks and order of Carrot & Hummus side, Mushroom Risotto and Bobotie tortelini starters, which was outstanding. We selected Seafood Bisque and the Lamb as mains. Apple Strudel to share for dessert, as at this point we were quite satisfied. Each and every bite was a taste experience. And believe it or not, but just as you think it is all over, then another surprise is placed on the table. Mason, their wine label offers both good value for money, as well as excellent taste. We celebrated our wedding at this stunning location, staying three nights in the Manor House with our closest friends. The memories we created will last a lifetime. Brookdale Estate is set among glorious scenery of mountains and vineyards. The manor house is historically lovely from the outside and gorgeously furnished inside (e.g. high airy entrance hall, luxurious lounge). My room was huge, beautifully decorated, and very comfortable, with everything you could want from a hotel (underfloor heating in the bathroom was a very welcome touch in the Cape winter). The food at the Bistro was sophisticated and lusciously delicious. But perhaps best to me was that, since I was really ill when I had booked, they accommodated a change to a week later -- even though I think this was a real inconvenience since I was then the only guest. Candace, who took care of me, was attentive, charming, and thought of everything I might want. For example, because it was an unusually warm day, she had my breakfast (plentiful and mouthwatering) set out on a terrace overlooking the vineyards -- such a pleasure.
