The general staff were amazing! The managers on the other hand can take no credit for their staff’s hospitality and kindness, and if the managers treat their paying guests the way they treated me then I can’t even begin to imagine what an awful work environment the staff are subjected to and they have my deepest sympathies.

I booked a 2 night stay but left after 1 night. I had to drive an uneven dirt road to get to my room, on one part of the road was a piece of concrete that scraped the bottom of my car.

At one point in the road you need to go into a parking lot at the Manor to turn around and continue up the road because it does a switchback and there’s no space to turn.

The pathway to the room was uneven and at night its pitch dark. There’s no signage to direct you either, the receptionist had to run all the way up the hill to show me where to go. I was also woken up very early by what sounded like a tractor.

During my complaint meeting (yes, I had to schedule a meeting with to pass on my complaints), the manager told me that if they installed lights along the path it would ruin the ambiance of the farm and with regards to the tractor their excuse was that it’s a working farm and I have to expect to hear things like that. So basically, I can’t have lighting for my safety at night because it ruins the “farm” experience but waking up to rumbling tractors is part of the deal??

Issues with the room:

  1. the rugs were slippery, I had to roll them up and move them aside.
  2. the DSTV wasn’t working.
  3. there wasn’t enough hot water for a shower.
  4. the shower and bathroom floor were not even wet but were still slippery. I slipped getting into the shower as well as walking into the bathroom.
  5. bathroom flooded after taking a shower
  6. the toilet handle was loose.
  7. there were stains on the sheets.
  8. the room was dusty.

Request for full refund was denied.

I would never recommend Diermestfontein Wine and Country Estate to anyone for anything. There are much more outstanding wine farms and experiences in the area that treat staff and guests better than...

Wine Tasting Experience

Went here on Saturday, took a drive with friends all the way to Wellington to experience wine tasting.

We arrived at 15h56 and was told they needed to clear a table outside for us. Eventually we grab the table still packed with glasses and dirty plates. The items are removed without a word of welcome or nothing. We had assumed that everything was closing at 5pm in terms of sales.

At 16h25 we are then brought menu's and told - we need to order quickly as the bar is closing/restaurant is closing at 16h30. We ask then if we can get something to accompany the wine tasting and are told that everything goes together and they are closing so unfortunately they cannot accommodate us.

Each wine is experienced as it poured and the tables are arranged with enough space between them and there are only about 6 tables outside anyways. The waitress or front of house is friendly enough but everything seems very rushed to get done so we can out there by 17h00.

Granted we got there lately but it was our first visit here and first impressions last. Sure the location is great and the wine tasting is very reasonably priced but after drive 40kms to experience it - it left much to be desired!

Pro-tip: Go earlier than 4pm and perhaps the service will be better. As far as I could tell there were also only 3 staff servicing the entire floor of people. So don't go too hungry or...

We had a booking at your lodge for 3 rooms for 2 nights for October 13 and 14. We were a group of 4 adults and one of our friends is a handicapped guy who can walk only short distances and only on flat surfaces as he has a walking disability after a severe stroke. The rooms you put us in the back were totally unacceptable for a number of reasons:||||1) in 2 out of the 3 rooms there was no water - at all - it came briefly the first time when we opened a tap for 5 minutes and then it stopped completely. There was absolutely no water in either bathtub or a sink the next day. ||||2) Your driveway to these rooms in the back is an absolute mess. If one car parks there then no one else can turn around in that small space as it is a very narrow driveway and a small place to park. So in the evening when we came back from the restaurant, we could not drive there and our friend had to walk with our assistance of course in the dark to the rooms. ||||3) The rooms are in a bad shape and do not correspond to the pictures that you advertise on your website. In general, it feels like the place needs a total renovation as soon as possible as many things are out of date.||||For all of the above reasons we checked out after one night stay and found another accommodation for a second night. ||||We request a refund from you for one...

Firstly, today the 1st of Jan and we did not expect to find a wine farm open. Secondly, there was loadshedding and it was a full blown summer day, sunny with not a cloud in the sky and HOT! We called ahead to double check that they were open and that they had power... And it was a YES to both questions. On arrival we were so impressed by all the great sculptures in the drive through the estate to get to the restaurant. And after parking we walked around to the entrance of the restaurant and were delighted to find a cool restaurant (thanks air con) with a lovely view. We were only popping in for a glass of wine and coffee, but decided to have a starter because everything that was ordered around us looked so delicious... So we had order envy. And not were we delighted to have had that starter... Definitely going back fore MORE! And if all that wasn't enough, the staff were super helpful, engaging and went out of their way to make us comfortable and happy. And they played lovely non-intrusive music.

We went to pick up an order we placed of the Harlequin wine. Lovely easy drinking red blend of Shiraz and Pinotage wine with good price point. We stayed for a wine tasting. There’s some beautiful art structures outside as you enter the property going towards the wine tasting area. The actual harlequin painting (which is also the label on the bottle) is hanging inside the tasting area restaurant. What I was most impressed about is that every bottle of Harlequin wine that is sold, contributes towards a modest fund for emerging artists in collaboration with Association of Arts in Pretoria. They’ve got beautiful views all around. The service we received from Johan was very good with some interesting stories about the farm and the wine. Their wines are really nice, easy drinking with great smell and taste to every one we tried. I was very impressed. I will definitely have more of their wines in future.
