Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe only ate in the Highlander Restaurant, out on the terrace.
Previously, while I was on holiday, we visited during the week, and it was great. Food ample, but average and overpriced - but we were happy to pay for the lovely view, friendly and professional service, and peace.
Today (Sunday 7 Sept '25), we went for lunch. As soon as we ordered, I regretted it.
Despite a sign reading "roudy behaviour will not be tolerated" there were groups of people holding "conversations" by shouting from one table to the next. It was SO loud, my dad and I struggled to converse.
It was not helped by the "background" music coming from inside. It was not live music - but for most of the time, the volume was so loud that even sitting outside, it was loud.
I was tempted to cancel the order and leave, but the member of staff I asked (Sam) said the food was ready and being fetched - so out of decency we waited, ate and left ASAP. Sadly some people sharing the terrace with us did not have the same decency, insisting on shouting their conversations across the tables :-(
We left a tip out of decency, but the service was average, if that.
Dad loved his calamari basket, but there was no vegan options for me. I settled for the veggie basket whose frozen spring rolls I am sure were frozen ones (not fresh), although the crumbed mushroomsnwere good... But WAY too...

The most significant issue was the unprofessional attitude of Phelisa during the enquiry and booking process, which led us to initially cancel, but we had to revert back due to the lack of alternatives. The location is beautiful, with clean and welcoming reception, but Conference Room 2 had a slight mouldy smell, possibly due to its proximity to the ocean and river mouth. The restaurant offers a cosy atmosphere and a great variety of food, although I found the frequent use of spicy meat dishes overwhelming and would have preferred more non-spicy options.
Unfortunately, we experienced delays during check-in, as linen wasn't ready until after 17:00, which was frustrating, especially when housekeeping was early to remind us of checkout. The rooms had small beds and duvets, and my room lacked a blanket, which made it difficult to sleep. The air conditioning in my room didn't work, and the bathrooms weren't thoroughly cleaned, with visible limescale in several areas. Despite these issues, I would consider visiting again, hoping for better rooms and...
