Rocky Drift Private Nature Reserve — Hotel in Emakhazeni Local Municipality

My family and I camped at Rocky Drift for 5 nights over New Year and had an absolutely brilliant time. This is a beautiful spot with great trails, and camping right on the stream. The landscape is quite spectacular and you definitely feel well off the beaten track.

The kids facilities are great, our kids made loads of new friends during our stay as they all gathered on the jungle gym trampolines and played in the splash pool. The restaurant and pool deck are a perfect escape from hardcore camping when you need a break.

Warren and Sam looked after us really well too, even helped us tumbledry some clothes when our bags got soaked in a storm. They also setup a brilliant spread for new years eve with great food and lots of fun. Thank you for a great time Warren and Sam.

Only reason for the 4 star instead of 5 star rating was the way the campsites are portrayed on the website. Although we chose the furthest site which was beautifully out the way, most of the sites are closer together than they are portrayed on the website. It's definitely not cramped, but at the same time its not as spread out as we expected based on what we'd seen on the web. This was a view shared by a few of the other campers there at the same time as us.

It was my first time staying at Rocky Drift and would definitely love to go back there! Sam and Warren were just the most wonderful and accommodating hosts. Whether we were enjoying a delicious meal at their restaurant, having a sundowner on the deck by the pool; or chatting around the fire under the beautiful night sky; they always made me feel right at home. Their camping sites are situated right along the riverbank, surrounded by the mountains - a beautiful setting that makes you feel relaxed and allows you to really embrace all the amazing views that nature has to offer! Their hiking trails are great and easy to follow - whether you're a beginner or prefer something more challenging - they have something for everyone. And the best part is that they are pet friendly, so you can bring along your fur babies to join in all your adventures! We had a wonderful time here at Rocky Drift. It is great that you can take a couple of hiking trails on the private terrain. You can also do some horseback riding nearby, but this should be booked in advance, especially on weekends. We had the little house with hot-tub. The firewood hot-tub takes a while to warm up, but will stay warm for a long time. Inside the little house it wasn’t too warm, but there are plenty of blankets and a fireplace. The kitchen was equipped with pretty new stuff. The food we had at the restaurant, stuffed pumpkin (as prepared by the owners), was super tasty, as was the home made malva pudding.
