We were looking to break up our drive from Kruger to Cape Town and happened to discover Liedjiesbos. The reviews and pictures intrigued us enough to say this little hidden gem really can be so we had to check it out for ourselves. It really was for 1 night and looked so inviting. Honestly, the pictures don't even begin to express the level of detail each room is given and the artistic flare the entire B&B is given. The four of us arrived late in the evening and we missed the dinner you can arrange in advance at Liedjiesbos. Our hosts referred us to an excellent restaurant 10 minutes away and ironically we ran into them at the same restaurant. They even sent over a bottle of wine to our table to make us feel welcome even outside their B&B! After dinner we laid our heads on Luxury 5 star beds and sheets and awoke to the smell of fresh coffee and breakfast being prepared. We had not seen the beauty of the entire property in the day light yet. My mother was knocking on my door with her camera saying we had to get up and see the well manicured gardens and beautiful birds. She became their biggest fan!
The main dining room and large lounge was our eventual meeting point for the rest of my family. This area dually serves as a gift shop selling unique gifts from all over Africa as well as homemade jams that rival Stonewall Kitchen of New England. We loaded up on small unique trinkets and mired after larger paintings and sculptures too large for our suitcases.
Our breakfast presentation and quality was outstanding. Again, our hosts made sure we were attended to individually amongst the other guests of the B&B. They both really go all out to ensure your experience is unique, memorable and bespoke. Liedjiesbos naturally attracts people who seek high quality and have an artistic or designer side to themselves. All four of us began chatting to the other guests to find they were repeat customers and became enamored with the bespoke experience and wonderful hospitality of our hosts. General consensus was given amongst our family - we all wished we had booked another day at this hidden gem. The close proximity to the N1 would be ideal for a business or pleasure traveler.

Read moreLiedjiesbos guesthouse is everything the name suggests… a beautiful song in the Free state veldt. The stylish yet rustic and honest architecture, luxurious rooms and notable art collection combines with a true, heartfelt ‘I am at home’-feeling to make you want to stay… Even though the building has received several architectural mentions and the indigenous garden is impeccable… this is not what makes this place something extra special… It is the complete package of extreme hospitability and love from the owners…
I recently got married in Bloemfontein and asked Henning and Dawie if there was room for me to get dressed at Liedjiesbos and for me and my new husband to spend our wedding night at, before we left for Tsitsikamma.
From the moment me and my sister arrived…to a fire place waiting to be lit and a piece of carrot cake, the night before the wedding, we were treated with the warmth of visiting close family members. On the day of the wedding, friends, family, photographers and make-up artists were welcome to come and go and enjoy a coffee in the lounge. Everybody was so relaxed that we nearly got married on the big veranda at Liedjiesbos.
After a long wedding Saturday we went back to our room - tired, but happy. To our surprise the room was transformed into a romantic honeymoon suite with candles everywhere, a cap classique on ice, Belgian chocolates and strawberries the size of apples… the perfect fairy tale ending to our fairy tale day.
The morning after, an incredible breakfast awaited with something fresh from their garden… we left with more than we came with, an incredible experience, a jar of home-made apricot jam and giant pumpkin seeds – harvested from the garden. This thank you note to Henning and Dawie does not even begin to describe the incredible unforgettable 2 days we spent at...
