We were two families travelling together, with five children among us, and arrived around 7:00 PM. We have booked 4 rooms.|Upon check-in, we were informed that there were no rooms available next to each other. As a result, each family was placed on different floors — one room on the 1st floor and the other on the 2nd. To make this more manageable, we requested to swap rooms among ourselves so each family could at least be on the same floor, which reception allowed. Unfortunately, this meant that our rooms were at opposite ends of the hotel, making it difficult to manage the children, particularly with a 5:00 AM flight the next morning.|Given the logistical difficulty and our concern for the children sleeping far away, we decided that all of us would sleep in one room (Room 149), which had two double beds. I suggested to my husband that we cancel the unused room, but when he approached reception, we were told it was too late to cancel the room, despite not having used the second room at all.|Aside from the room arrangement challenges, we were extremely disappointed with the condition of the hotel and Room 149 in particular:|• The hotel itself is clearly outdated and not well maintained.|• The bathroom was outdated, with a bathtub and plastic shower curtain instead of a proper shower.|• The bed was unstable, rocking every time someone turned over.|• The toilet leaked, causing water to pool on the bathroom floor. I stepped into this puddle during the night.|• There was no hot water when I attempted to wash my face in the morning.|• The bathroom door had visible stains or spills from a previous occupant, indicating poor cleaning standards.|For a hotel located next to an international airport, I expected a significantly better standard. The condition of the room and facilities was not only uncomfortable but also unhygienic and unacceptable.|This experience was incredibly disappointing and does not reflect the level of service or care one would hope for in a hotel catering to...
Read moreOn the 6th of March 2020, my car was stolen from the Garden Court Hotel at OR Tambo International, Johannesburg. According to the hotel management team, my car was stolen 6:04 in the morning. According to them, the security footage shows a car with false registration drive in with people whose faces were covered. They took my car and drove out with it. The hotel informed me that they were going to conduct their own internal investigation and cooperate with the police. Up to now I haven’t received any update from the hotel. First of all, I do not understand how a car, with people whose faces were covered upon arrival at the security gate, can be allowed in and out of the premises, leaving with a car they did not enter with, when everyone else, without an access card, who wants to access the hotel parking is stopped and questioned by security guards. This is negligence in its worst form. Secondly, the fact that my car was stolen at 6am, in summer when the sun is already out at that time, is very puzzling. This hotel is extremely unsafe and not only were our belongings at risk, but also our lives are at risk as this hotel is clearly comfortable with letting criminals come in and out of their premises, with masks on their faces, and even let them leave minutes later with an additional car that they did not enter with. Of all the places that the Department of Correctional Services has ever booked us in, this is the WORST! I am also very disappointed, to say the least, that I was left stranded to figure out my own transport from Johannesburg back to Durban due to the recklessness of those who were meant to, at the least, make an effort to keep their premises safe. I don’t even want to mention the expenses I have incurred in getting myself another car. My experience at this hotel, and their communication in attempting to resolve this matter...
Read moreDO NOT take a tour with them!!! My family and I are in Johannesburg for 1 day and up from the airport was asked if we wanted to do a half day tour. We agreed and were disappointed not only by the tour guide but the deception we were told about the tour. The tour was to visit Nelson Mandela’s house and museum, the Hector Peterson Memorial, Soweto museum, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Desmond Tutu house and more (see attached photo). The only thing we came out of the van for was Nelson Mandelas House, and the rest of it we saw from the van or was closed because it was a Monday (day museums are closed). No one told us that half of these tours activities would not be accessible before started the tour. Also the man who set up the tour clearly did not speak with the driver because when the tour was over, he claimed it costed more than what we were quoted. We were given a discount because we were a group of 4, and was told a set price for the full group, but the driver told us it was actually per person. He didn’t even want to work on reducing the price seeing that the museum fees were in the price and we didn’t get to visit them. We ended up paying the driver the price he quoted since he was convinced we misunderstood the man we booked the tour with. The driver barely spoke during the tour either, unless we asked questions. All in all the attraction were 1 1/2 hours of the 4 hour tour the rest was driving. Save yourself the time and money. Just...
