Our overall stay the Magalies Mountain Lodge was okay but I really expected more from a 3 star lodge. The lodge deffinetly needs some upagrades and general maintenance.
The Facility Overall - Some of the areas around the rooms and on your way to the trail is filled with junk...(not a pretty site). The swimming pool's water wasn't clean like one would expect. I would also suggest some type of a barrier between the pool and reception to add some privacy to the area.
The Rooms - The rooms really DO NOT justify the prices charged per night. Surely the price of R1.4k per night (excl. treatments & meals) and could include better decor, a small bar fridge or those small hotel milk boxes, good coffee, and better quality toiletpaper...The taps in our bathroom didn't even match, there was no remote for the actual TV and the ash trays on our patio weren't even cleaned - a disgusting sight/smell for non-smokers.
The Restaurant - We absolutely loved the service and friendly staff working here. The food was great, but more options and maybe fresh fruit instead of canned would have been nice for breakfast, when we asked for orange juice we received a cheap glass of concentrate mix (not even orange flavored) The soft-drink prices are really exploiting and could have been included with the meal packages. The bathrooms in the restaurant could use some upgrading and cleaning. The "sanitizer" at the door - to our shock and disgust was not actual sanitizer at all, but what smelt like a mix of domestos and water..we had to wash our hands again.
Entertainment Area - There's not to much going on here or a lot to entertain with. We were excited to play some pool, but once again dissapointed by the lack of overall maintenance of the table and sticks. The overall area was also not very inviting.
The Trail - We had a lovely time on the trail. This was the one thing that made us choose Magalies Mountain Lodge instead of another Spa that did not offer the same.
The Spa - Again we loved the staff. The Spa could also make use of some basic upgrades, maintenance and be more inviting...we could see that the towels have been overused in the colour fading and stains, holes in the roof were not very pleasant to look up at. The treatments were very relaxing, what we expected and ultimately came for.. We both however got scratched by some of the staff whos nails weren't cut or sharp.
We really think that the Magalies Mountain Lodge has a lot of potential and could offer much more than it currently does at the prices charged. Overall we enjoyed our stay, the friendly staff...
Read moreThis lodge is situated in such a beautiful area but it unfortunately really needs an upgrade! Upon arrival, we were welcomed at reception with a friendly smile and well organised itinerary. Everything was clearly explained and we were looking forward to our first massage scheduled that evening. We booked into the room, which was nice and clean and had everything one needed for the weekend stay. Perhaps those little hotel milk cartons could be considered though in each room?
The staff, as well as the massage therapists were extremely friendly and everything seemed to be on time. The massages were really lovely and professional and we felt relaxed! I do feel, however, that the spa could do with some upgrades. The rooms feel a little clinical/hospital-like. Some nice curtains and dimmer lighting could do wonders. The covers used on the beds were rather stained and dirty and most of the time we had to adjust the toweling around the "face holes" to avoid getting uncomfortable lines from the bed. Comfort goes a long way!
After our massages, we were off to dinner at the restaurant. Once again, we were welcomed with a friendly smile. BIG NOTE - you need to take your own alcohol if you want a glass of wine or two with your dinner as they do not serve alcohol. The restaurant decor could do with some sprucing up but all in all not too bad. We really did not enjoy our dinners at all unfortunately. I think a more focused and fresh menu would be wonderful here. Our poor host that evening was the only staff in the restaurant that night, so I really think they need more help on that front.
Breakfast were really nice but lunch was disappointing.
The hike was beautiful and serene! Once again - such a beautiful setting!
It is certainly a relaxing place to be and the actual lodge itself has so...
Read moreMy recent one-day conference at Magalies Mountain Lodge was an absolute pleasure. Everything about the venue, from the location to the staff, exceeded expectations.
Nestled amidst the picturesque Magaliesberg mountain range, the lodge itself is a haven of tranquility. The moment you arrive, you're greeted by breathtaking panoramic views that instantly melt away any stress. The fresh mountain air and the surrounding beauty provided a truly inspiring backdrop for the conference itself.
Beyond the aesthetics, the lodge impressed with its functionality. The conference facilities were well-equipped and comfortable, allowing for a productive session. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the day, ensuring everything ran smoothly and addressing any needs that arose.
A particular highlight of the day was the invigorating morning hike offered by the lodge. The chance to stretch our legs and take in the stunning scenery from a different perspective was a welcome break, and the fresh mountain air left us all feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the afternoon session.
Following the conference, we were treated to a phenomenal lunch at the lodge's restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious, showcasing fresh, local ingredients and a culinary expertise that far exceeded typical "conference fare." Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor.
If you're looking for a conference venue that offers more than just a meeting room and a box lunch, look no further than Magalies Mountain Lodge. The combination of stunning scenery, a refreshing escape into nature, friendly and professional staff, and delectable cuisine makes it a truly 5-star experience.
