The place is in a beautiful setting especially with the river flowing past and this is easily the only thing I appreciated during my stay. My friend put a cushion and bed cover on top of the chair I'd draped my dress on Saturday evening. I subsequently missed it when packing up on Sunday the 29th just before 10am checkout. I was the last person to lock that room and my friends had already put their bags in the car on our way to breakfast. I realized my mistake at about 14:00 same day and called to ask that they keep the dress safe for me. I reasoned it was not necessary for me to drive back as housekeeping would likely find it and do the right thing. My number was taken with promises to update. Needless to say none of that happened. I have had to make numerous daily calls to date as they try to locate the person who was on duty that morning because nothing was submitted as a lost item! I am utterly disappointed at this kind of behaviour and I informed the last person I talked to that I would be raising my experience with the new owners of the hotel. I work in a service environment and know the importance of the customer for my continued employment. I have previously forgotten stuff at some of the establishments and have never experienced such laxity in reverting to queries. Last but not least, our bathroom had a rancid smell and flies were a problem in the room too. The creaky, rusty door at the back of the room only had a simple hook latch and this was a safety concern since our room was right at the back of the complex. Anyone can easily break in. We spent the weekend with a noisy unusable TV and the wall cable socket hanging loose. Water was cut off for most of Saturday making it impossible to bath or use the toilet. We reported all these inconveniences and were told the maintenance officer does not work on weekends. The place is definitely not cheap and the owners need to seriously upgrade their offering. Please also give us a clear platform on your website where to direct our complaints. Secondly, please tell your housekeeping supervisor that I am still waiting for feedback. Lastly, I know I will be told about the disclaimer that you take no responsibility for any losses but that does not wash with me if you will be employing dishonest...
Β Β Β Read moreI went there with my partner for 3 night as part of my birthday celebration. Oh my word, where do I start? `It was such a horrible experience for the entire duration of our stay.
The check in process was tedious and after we were convinced to upgrade our room, where we were promised an electric blanket (where there was a blanket, but not electric) it was very underwhelming and not as clean as it should of been.
We then proceeded to go to dinner at the on-prem restaurant and the food was very mediocre at best. Seeing that it was for a special occasion we were brave and decided to order dessert (cake) for my birthday. Oh gosh, the cake was clearly store bought (not sure from how many days ago) from a supermarket and it was so cold (almost frozen) as if it was just taken out of the walk-in freezer. Needless to say that should of been my second sign that things will not end well.
We then decided to have some night caps at the bar where the prices were tantamount to that of a night club in Sandton. How do they charge me R50 for a 330ml can of juice? Absolutely ridiculous. To add salt on the wound, we are strictly prohibited to bring a bottle of any alcohol (they literally search your car at the gate). How am I supposed to enjoy a drink at bar when the prices are so inflated? What are we, the Kardashians?
Furthermore, when the housekeeping came the next day, they left us with the dirty glasses from the night before and did not bother to clean the room, they just made the bed, left the room as is with the dirty glasses. There is no microwave or fridge in the rooms and we had to drink room temperature beverages for the whole weekend and have cold leftovers. Like, why would you do that to us? Why remove the fridge though? We should just drink warm cold drinks and cold milk with our coffees in the morning...? WOW.
Not forgetting to mention the TV situation, there are about 7 channels and one of them is ETV (which odes not play) and radio stations. The wifi also was very inconsistent.
Overall, this was a serious waste of money and extremely unhappy with my stay. I couldn't wait to leave on Sunday morning. Normally I like to request for a late check out to sleep in for a bit when I travel, listen I was out of there at...
Β Β Β Read moreWe had a 50 year reunion of veterinarians and we booked a few months in advance to ensure good accommodation with no steps for elderly people and quite a few overseas members. On arrival we learnt that those rooms were given to another group and we had to settle in the inferior hotel rooms including many steps and a long way to the venue. During our reservations we explicitly said that the hotel rooms were not acceptable. The issue here is that management should have informed us of this change in accommodation to allow us to make an informed decision on the viability of the reunion at Roode Valley. It was stated by Adel that she did not know about the needs for the specific booking of the rooms. Change of personnel is not an excuse for poor customer relationship. Our room, as the rest of the facility, was in serious need of maintenance. Pictures available on request. The window could not close, the air conditioner and the telephone did not work. No effort to repair these two items was visible during the three days of our stay. The toilet seat was worn. For the price of of the rooms. I would have expected decent TV channels in the rooms. Only basic SABC channels were available. The safe was standing loose in the cupboard making it useless. To crown it all the cupboard could not be locked. Paving was in a bad shape and for people who walk with difficulty it is a big risk to walk long distances. The room had no shower. It is ridiculous to expect elderly people (70 years plus) to get in and out of a bath for a shower, especially if the bath has no safety handles. Two electric appliances connected to a single wall plug is not acceptable and dangerous. We had to negotiate to eventually get the venue that we booked for our evening functions. The bar did not stock alcohol free beer. The dam was filthy in front of the hotel and an effort could have been made to regularly remove the plastic and other debris. I trust that the terrible sewerage smell from the dam is not the fault of...
