Room was neat and tidy. Guests are received with smiles and offered iced tea while you wait for your room. Menus are incomplete and inconsistent. Mine was not the same as my husband's. I was then told there were drinks available that weren’t. Our waiter from outside (bar section) wanted to help us inside the restaurant also, but that resulted in us having to have him called all the time. Then one of the restaurant waiters took over assisting us. At the restaurant, after placing our orders the waiter came back probably 20min later stating they don’t have ribs. Everything took so long we decided we would get our desserts through room service as room service closes 21:45. We wanted to spoil ourselves and do something fun (room service) Keep in mind we went into the restaurant at 6pm. We got to the room only to find a non functioning phone and we were definitely not going back to the restaurant. There is not much entertainment-wise except for the pool, spa, bar and restaurant. They do have a bit of grass to walk around on or sit on next to the pool. Nice enough to spend the night, would not recommend it for going there for a vacation. Was there fortunately only one night.

Slept at the hotel for 3 nights was on a business trip. Disappointed that there’s no covered parking at this hotel. The reception was helpful on checking in and checking out. However getting to the rooms is just a maze with no clear directions you’re just given instructions to walk straight. I even got lost getting to my room. The food was horrible both dinner and breakfast, the waiters are confused we waited over 30 minutes trying to get someone to get our drinks order for dinner even for breakfast one would wait, the food was burnt and just horrible. There was an option to order from the room service menu for dinner, their service was quick but even then the food was horrible. Asked for an iron Wednesday morning and I waited for such a long time to get one. Wednesday evening there was an alarm that was randomly going off it went off like 3 times within a short space of it, the hotel didn’t even bother to communicate if it was a faulty alarm or our lives were in danger. Overall I didn’t enjoy my stay and definitely not coming back to stay here.

Checkin wasn’t very pleasant. The person at reception started out kind of rude but for some reason when I came up in the system as a rewards member she suddenly decided to be nice. There are no elevators and there are a lot of little sets of stairs to get to the rooms of the hotel. The grounds are well kept. I had pretty good service at the lounge on most of my visits, but there was one experience where it took forever for somebody to bring a menu and take my order. All of the food I had there was good which was great since I ate all my meals at the hotel for the 3 nights I was there. The room had a bar fridge so that was convenient for keeping drinks. The bed was the standard comfortable Marriott /Protea bed. The location wasn’t convenient to other restaurants or stores unless you had a vehicle.

The place is beautiful and the rooms are beautiful but I was not happy with the service.

Firstly, on Monday my room was dirty when I arrived,  in the wardrobe, on top of the table, the floor was dusty too. I thought it would be swept and moped when I came back the following day, but it was still the same, I even complained at the reception in the evening. They told me the caretaker was going to my room. I left the key as I went to dine in. When I went back after dinner, the room was still not swept. On Wednesday, they swept only the room and not the bathroom, they never moped, except the small area where a drink fell. Like I couldn't walk barefooted in that dirty room.  Bath tub was never washed, they could change the bedding and towels but never washed the tub. I have never slept in such a 4 star in  my whole life and I'll never book here again. Dedicated cleaners and caretaker required here, I don't know how you allow guests to check in, in an unwept dusty room.

The other minor but nuisance part is in the dinning. The last day I was leaving, there was this old mother that was making eggs and omelette, she was very unfriendly and she was looking angry when I asked for another egg, like really. The worst part of the hotel, there are plenty of things for people who eat red meat, there was always bacon, pork bangers and boerewors, but there was never anything meaty for me in the morning, so I was obliged to eat eggs and cheese all the time. No fish fingers or chicken fillets. And that mother would be looking at me as if I'm doing wrong when I come to ask for another egg. Another annoying part, waiters are so quick to take dishes while we are still eating, if you just leave your table for a while, you'd find your food taken. But they aren't quick to replace those cutlery when others have eaten and left. So before you eat Breakfast or dinner later, you'll have to going around looking for cutlery course it hasn't been replaced after...

If I could rate this a zero, I would! I had a deeply frustrating and disappointing check-in experience at this Protea Hotel. I had booked my stay through my Discovery Bank profile, which should have been a seamless process. Instead, I was met with confusion and incompetence at the reception. The staff claimed they couldn’t assist me because they "don’t have a Discovery Bank account," which shows a shocking lack of understanding of how their own booking partnerships work.

Despite my repeated attempts to explain the process, they refused to listen and even asked me who they should call to resolve the issue. How is it my responsibility to train your staff on how to do their job? I eventually gave them the Vitality Travel emergency number, but instead of calling, they stood by and made me call from my own phone. I spent over 40 minutes at the reception, standing the entire time, trying to resolve something that should have been handled swiftly and professionally.

Not once during this ordeal did anyone apologise or acknowledge the inconvenience caused. Once the issue was finally resolved, all I got was a cold “all sorted, here is your room key.”

This experience was not only disappointing—it was disrespectful. I felt like an inconvenience rather than a valued guest. This was my first and definitely my last time staying at any Protea Hotel. I expected better from a brand affiliated...

Everything about this place was just okay. Service was mediocre, and could do with some major improvement. The only admirable thing about this place is the friendly staff, that's it.

It was a two night, three day stay and as much as everything just seemed okay and tolerable it all went downhill after that. I had attended a work conference and of course had to check out way before check out time (7h30) before proceeding with my day. My colleagues and I checked in our luggage to be stored at the front desk and of course received a perforated ticket number after our bags were tagged.

A short 5 hrs later (12h30) we requested to receive our bags as we were enroute home - only to be told that our bags are not there and that it is being transported to the airport?! Nobody, and I mean nobody had instructed this. As infuriating as we were (three bags weren't able to be located) all we received were confused faces from staff and each member passing the buck eventually blaming the transport manager for this mishap.

Please explain to me how our bags were just removed off the premises without our consent? Why is there a ticket system in place if anyone and everyone can just pick and choose bags to take home whenever they please?

This is absolutely pathetic and this place is definitely not worth returning to because trust was lost and I will never feel safe...
