What a terrible experience myself and my family had at Eastbrook river Lodge.
After a long day of driving to arrive at our destination full of excitement, this was quickly tarnished.
On the arrival to Eastbrook River lodge you see a Lodge that was once successful, but this is definitelyi n the past.
Arrival You see a beautiful open space and the scenery is tranquil. The nature is breathtaking. The hostess welcomed us very friendly and explained the activities and showed us to our room.
DISASTER STRUCK - THE ROOM WAS FILTHY, covered with spiders (dead and alive), nests, dead insects scattered on window sills. The walls was dirty. Shower was dirty, dirty bedding. Unhabitable to say the least. Gas stove, where we need to prepare food, also dirty. The roof fan is on the verge of dismantling out of the roof.
Our toddler was even to scared to enter the chalet as it was covered with insects and spiders.
The Complaint We sent the hostess a whatsapp to inform her that we were unhappy about the cleanliness of the chalet, she immediately came to our unit and was very surprised about our complaint. According to her she cleaned the unit herself and 'cannot believe' that we are complaining about cleanliness. We pointed out the dirty areas but she refused to acknowledge them. She made us feel like we were being unreasonable.
When I pay alot of money I expect something basic like a clean unit.
-Outcome We packed our belongings and immediately left on the search for alternative accomodation.
Luckily Forest Gate in plett accommodated us with a clean and...
Read moreThe location, environment and topography are delightful. The amount of cordwood supplied endless. The birdlife amazing. The lawn immaculate but the amenities need attention. Shower was temperamental with or without loadshedding The drain in the handbasin needs a detox. Pictures don't indicate that the kitchen in a five sleeper unit is in the main bedroom, so etiquette dictates no access to fridge coffee etc while a person takes a snooze or is still sleeping. The kitchen has minimal utensils with no side plates and missing cutlery. A double bunk and a sleeper couch in the second bedroom makes it a five sleeper. That's fine for kids but not for adults wanting to stay together. The main light in the second bedroom was defunct. Another friend's cottage's fan clattered. The ceiling fan was visibly damaged. No air-conditioning. I guesstimate that there were 8 vehicles of which one was top of the range Mercedes, the other a Volvo the rest non-cheap 4X4's , the place had no vacant units, the value of the cars in excess of a couple of million rand so pitch maintenance and attention to detail to the level of the market the lodge already attracts and the price the...
Read moreWe spent two nights at Eastbrook River Lodge in May of 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The hosts John and Monche were both very accommodating and welcomed us to their lovely property and made us feel right at home from the minute we arrived. We were able to wash our bikes off while Monche made sure that all our rooms were ready as I think they could see we had been on a serious adventure before arriving there. John ensured there was a big old fire going for us each night which we spent hours around just catching up and having a good old laugh.
Facilities are great and far exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be back on our next bike adventure up the Garden Route. Highly recommended to any other adventure bike riders making their way through that beautiful part of...
