I initially did not intend to write this review because we decided almost immediately upon arrival not to stay here. But because the communication about whether or not to get a partial refund did not go well, I decided to do it anyway. In itself, this is a beautiful domain. However, the two self-sufficient cottages are located next to a fairly dark forest (where trees had just been cut down), and not in the atmospheric pretty gardens uphill. They hardly have any windows, are dark and feel closed, and are not warm or cozy. They look like old houses where the staff once lived, and no effort was made to place a window or door at the back - where a hot tub was installed. As a result, the cottage has no contact with the outside space, and the inside feels like a cheap motel. We were told that most people staying there are always on the go and are not bothered by it, but since we are traveling with two children, we find the atmosphere of a house and place very important. On the photos that you find of it on booking and airbnb, it all seems to look a lot better. Now that we looked again at these photos, we noticed the only photo of the cottages is one birdview-picture which looks nice, but you can’t sera any interior/exterieur. All other photos are of other interiors and rooms in the main Colonials style buildings. This doesn’t give a correct impression, and is not fair to guests. We were quickly welcomed by the man of the house who warned us to watch out for crime, and made comments about his staff being on his wifi too much. The first contact was therefore not too pleasant. The woman of the estate wanted to offer us another room, which was not big enough for our family, but she would solve that by putting extra beds for the kids in the kitchen area. We politely declined. We booked this place for 6 nights, they were not even prepared to refund part of this. As a hostess you always have the choice to show understanding for your guests, and at least partly meet their expectations. Of course we understand that we cannot be fully refunded for 6 nights (we also rent a B&B at home), but we are quite convinced that the advertisement makes the place seem different than it actually is. I would recommend putting a window in the back wall, and some energy and budget in the decoration. But that does not seem to be a problem to me now, with the money we’ve lost here, you can already make a big part of it. We have stayed in many places in SA and have always been warmly welcomed and our expectations matched the advertisement. We found this to be a very disappointing experience. Our decision not to stay probably costs us 8000 Rand, but atmosphere and warmth are ultimately more...
