This place certainly only holds up its name it the spectacular views and the amazing salt water pool with manicured garden landscaping that is breathtaking.
The rest unfortunately fall short on every aspect of such a beautiful establishment.
The management ( or lack thereof) is non existent , the staff the 5 that we interacted with seems to be only ones keeping this place alive. They each have to do each other's roles over and above their description.
The admin was a mess people including waited up to 3 hours for our rooms.
No barmen in attendance in the waiting hours the receptionist helped us. Bedding and mattresses was being carried around the hotel to accommodate people who have booked rooms.
We booked through booking.com and their was nothing on file re : reservation or payment.
To say that the kitchen was over run at dinner time was an insult some of us got to eat while the others waited , not standard. practice. We even made it easy and ordered burgers which was undercooked and sauce to cover the entire plate.
Waitresses were doing cleaning of the rooms including their job and was turning in circles to accommodate everyone.
We were charged R2400 per room De Luxe and only got one out of 3 in the end I wanted a refund on the shoddy rooms we got and it was applied to our bill.
The towels reeked of sweat and we were unable to use them, the couch in our one room reaked of urine , the other was the Deluxe Room mattress , the other room reaked of drain cleaner.
I never complain but seeing the conditions the staff had to operate under I feel for them as the owners is not in SA ( no suprise there) .
The balcony was packed with broken furniture and we had to navigate a way to enjoy our coffee in the morning.
It's not slave labour anymore.
Get more staff / waiters / waitresses Get a manager Get a reputed laundry Leave the admin staff to concentrate on bookings and payments Give the chef an assistant Get cleaning staff special attention needs to be given to the deep cleaning of the room.
I really hope this helps and when I do come around in the near future it would have a turn around.
I took a month to write this and I feel after numerous other complaints after I have been something needs to...
Read moreWe had a very disappointing experience staying at Far Hills recently. As we checked in, we were told that it is really out of season (in mid-October). Clearly the hotel was not ready for guests. They first checked us into a standard downstairs room, when I had specifically booked a deluxe room with a mountain view. To get the mountain view, we were moved to a part of the hotel where no one else stayed, and which I don't believe was really ready for any guests. No aircon, no mini-fridge, no hairdryer, no rails in the bathroom to hang up a small towel. It almost looked as though the room had been purposefully stripped of all amenities. We arrived after a very long trip at 14h30, and was looking forward to sitting in the restaurant (which is meant to be open for lunch until 15h00 according to the website), looking over the views, and grabbing something to eat or drink. But the restaurant wasn't open. To get something to eat, we had to then meet with the chef to agree on what to eat. We did not receive a menu at this point - the options were pizza or wraps. A menu did appear when we mentioned dinner, but... when we asked what was available, the answer was "very little", as nothing was in stock. This severely limited options for me as a vegetarian. The staff then asked us to pay as we were finishing dinner as the person who had checked us in didn't want to come in early the next day. How very odd.... Overall, the staff was very friendly, but almost limited by the hotel itself. I'm afraid this hotel has so so much potential, but totally unrealized. It could hardly be in a more beautiful setting, yet feels so awfully neglected. Honestly, if you cannot accommodate a deluxe room or a mountain view or are in fact not open for business (in any real way) until mid-November, please do not take any bookings. Doing so feels unethical and misleading to...
Read moreStayed here for 2 nights on Dec-31, 2024 & Jan-1, 2025 in room 35 on the ground floor.||The rooms in this hotel have no electronic lock / keycard & instead manual keys that have to be turned in keyholes were provided upon check-in.||Our room had glass doors at the back that opened to greenery expanses without any compound wall in sight so seemed very unsafe / unprotected.||No waste bin in room & only given upon asking at the reception.||The reception had cupboards with books like the devil wears prada, Stephen kings works etc, ||We found 3 spiders in our room that we had to clean ourselves & plenty of stick insects crawling all over the back glass doors. ||There is a black dachshund in this hotel that walks about freely. Personally I don't mind it as I love canines, but if other guests mind it then watch out!||This seems to be an old / dated hotel that is severely understaffed & in need of modernisation. All the staff I saw here were only women.||The common areas of the hotel have a lot of dirt & fallen leaves & no cleaning done by the staff.||We were provided limited & unsatisfactory breakfast on the 2 mornings we ate there. (dark mushrooms, scrambled eggs, bread, butter, juices & champagne glasses with muesli,...
