Wow. We booked for 8-nights and stayed for ten, and would’ve stayed longer should reality not have called – only to find out, we weren’t the only one’s - having met a three times over returning guest - plus another arriving for the fourth time on our departure.
So yes, there has got to be something about In Toto Guest House Garden Route that makes it so special – which you will definitely discover from the moment you enter its solid wood hand-carved wooden doors.
Each room is meticulously appointed with modern finishes, ample cupboard space and self-catering facilities (should you so desire), as too a massive bath and oversized shower with jet-setting hot water (like no other), notwithstanding being cleverly laid out to maximise on privacy and space, whilst also soaking up selfish views of the Swartvlei Lagoon.
We were there on a semi-working getaway and thankfully (to our relief) the internet was super-fast, even faster than at our normal working space.
But, at the end of the day, it is really our overall experience that made our stay “truly outstanding”. Huge thanks to the entire In Toto Team for making our stay truly special – from hosts Richard and Roland who happened to be there for part of our stay, and who showed us where all the hotspots were - from birdwatching, to the must-see Sedgefield Market, never mind dragging us out on bicycles, and for sunset walks, and more – to Jolene’s (manageress) scrumptious breakfasts along with Marsha’s (housekeeper) and Steve’s (handyman/gardener) exceptional hospitality – we will definitely be back for more.
FYI – each room is cleverly designed to open up into family suites, with private courtyards and balconies. The main house with kitchen and dining facilities is accessible to all guests making it the ideal location for family gatherings, small training conference and...
Read moreLooking for an amazing nature filled rejuvenating getaway? Look no further than InToto Retreat in Sedgefield. Spent an amazing three nights here with family and this place did not disappoint at all. On the contrary it was love at first sight! From the warm welcome of our hosts Roland and Richard to the spacious clean and cozy self contained rooms (we were in the comfy Strelitzia Suite) and the amazing breakfasts including fresh fruit salad, muffins, breads, eggs (your way), sausages, bacon, teas, coffee, and juice (all made by our hosts each morning). Oh and I loved the communal breakfast table where we got to connect with some of the other guests for some great conversations.
I loved that I could walk literally less than one minute to the lagoon right outside the door and sit or walk along the beach all whilst enjoying the amazing view of the mountains. Let me not forget to mention the mesmerizing unforgettable sunset beach walk to Gericke’s Point Sphinx Rock- a must see if you can, organized by our hosts. I hear they also have a full moon beach walk to the Sphinx Rock that is spectacular to witness.
Ronald and Richard were very accommodating providing insights into the area of things to do as well as restaurant recommendations- we enjoyed eating at Oysters R Us and The Captain Cooks Seafood Resturant, a short 40 min drive from InToto along part of the of famous garden route through Knysna to Plattenberg with breath taking scenery and going to the famous Sedgefield Saturday morning farmers market a walking distance from InToto Retreat. This is a treat go early to get the fresh pomegranate juice!
It is a 5/5 for me, I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a peaceful place to rejuvenate. I will definitely be back.
Thank you Roland and Richard for curating a memorable place to escape and reset....

We spent four days and three memorable nights at the In Toto Retreat this January, and words can't fully capture how incredible the experience was. The rooms are spacious, elegantly designed, and spotlessly clean. We stayed in the Goliath Heron Suite, which provided stunning views of the lagoon and the majestic surrounding mountains. Comfortable beds made it hard to leave in the mornings, but with so many amazing activities in the area, it was worth it.
Our hosts, Roland and Richard, were beyond kind and welcoming, going out of their way to make us feel right at home. Their attention to detail and warm hospitality truly made our stay memorable.
The breakfast was outstanding, with delicious options. The property itself is serene, featuring a quiet yard and a pool that's perfect for relaxation after a day of exploring.
Sedgefield is a hidden gem with so much to offer. During our stay at In Toto, Roland and Richard organized a visit to an incredible local market filled with fresh produce, handmade crafts, clothing, and delicious food, all set to live music in a lively, welcoming atmosphere. We also loved kayaking, paddleboarding, floating along the canal at the Sedgefield lagoon mouth, gently carried by the outgoing tide, hiking in nature, and the breathtaking sunset beach walk to Gericke's Point Sphinx Rock—a truly unforgettable experience. Roland and Richard made our trip even better with their excellent restaurant recommendations and local insights. We highly recommend In Toto Retreat to anyone looking for a peaceful and rejuvenating getaway. We'll definitely be back and have already recommended it to our friends. Thank you, Roland and Richard, for an...
