If we could add more stars, we honestly would. Insika is a hidden gem in the heart of the Klein Karoo and so worth a visit!
The setting of the guesthouse is absolutely breathtaking, with stunning hikes right on your doorstep and a picturesque river with canoes and a braai area that offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We were lucky enough to spot some wildlife during our walks, adding an extra layer of magic to our experience. And for those traveling with furry friends, the river is an absolute paradise for them - our dogs had the time of their lives splashing around!
Gill and Michael are not only amazing hosts but just two absolutely lovely souls! They have truly transformed the old workers cottages on the farm into a little jewel and you can see and feel all the hard work and love they’ve put into it. The cottage is beautifully kitted out and has everything you need from an extra duvet and fresh flowers on the table to farm fresh vegetables and mozzie spray.
Very seldom does a guesthouse feel so homey. Insika is a very special place and we will definitely be back many times!

Read moreWe spent two nights at Insika , just outside Carlitzdorp. We were able to relax at a beautiful river spot and enjoyed canoeing on the river. In the evenings we were treated to special suppers with our hosts Gill and Mike. On our second evening we had a braai on a beautiful mountain top viewpoint, which in itself was just such a special experience. The sky was filled with stars and the fellowship with Gill, Mike and Claudette around the fire was amazing! There is plenty of hiking space through the Gamka Eco -Estate. The accommodation that is offered at Insika Cottage is comfortable, clean and environmentally friendly. We wish that we had not just been passing through on route to Stillbaai. If you need peace, love scenery and want time to unwind, I would highly recommend this space. Thank you Insika for refreshing our souls....
Read moreHow lucky to find this gem of a place among the myriad offerings on-line. The description fails to convey the pared-back simplicity of the place. Every aspect - from the solid quality of every utensil, pot and pan, to the thoughtful touches like plenty of firewood and a proper first aid kit - has been carefully thought through. No frou-frou kitcheties or clutter but some interesting books and home comforts (not least the woodburner in the kitchen) perfectly fit for purpose. I highly recommend, especially if you want to experience efficient off-grid living. We were so content to hang around the cottage that we didnt even explore the river and stunning Karoo landscape. That will have to be next time. Michael and Gilli should be proud of what they have achieved and their discrete...
