Ladismith Manor — Hotel in George

One of the safest towns and a super stopover while travelling through the Karoo. The house is quaint and dinner next to crackling fireside was very comforting. Alex is a wonderful host and a superb cook. His love of curries was largely evident in the mouth-watering Butter chicken or Thai Green curry that was served to me during my stay. You might even be lucky enough to taste one of his delicious Scottish shortbread biscuits when he has been in the mood for baking. During my stay I managed to do numerous walks around the #Ladismith “koppies” (perfect for any age) although hiking up @Towerkop is not for the faint hearted but an exhilarating experience. This is a beautiful part of the world and we wanted to explore the area so called at the information office, who recommended this B&B in the main part of town. The name board had been removed for repair and we struggled to find the place as the host, Alex, was not answering his phone. It turned out he was taking a shower, so no problem - everyone is entitled to wash! There was a small room available which had all we required although the windows looked out onto a wall, quite close! The pool was refreshing after a hot drive from the coast. Alex was very talkative, which was a little intrusive, but gave us good advice on where to go to see the surrounding countryside and where to find some supper. A quiet road meant a decent nights sleep, so we were satisfied, and breakfast...

The accommodation is centrally located. The owner/host displayed just the right amount of attentiveness without being intrusive. Although there was no aircon in the beautifully decorated room, the pool is a great amenity and situated in well tended garden. The tranquility of the establishment is superb and what was most wonderful was the recommendations made by the host in terms of restaurants. In fact, thanks to the owner going an extra mile, a sought-after and intimate restaurant managed to serve me on a day not normally open...
