We stayed in Oppie Rant, one of the original farm buildings on a ridge overlooking the valley and spectacular views of the Swartberg. The cottage doesn't have electricity, which adds to its old world charm, but we were given plenty of paraffin lamps and torches. Read moreWe stayed in Die Wa Huis at Matjiesvlei Guest Farm. It is up in the hills outside Calitzdorp. The views of the surrounding mountains are stunning. The cottage is a special experience for city people with soft lighting from candles and paraffin lamps. Read moreWe were passing through Calitzdorp and were looking for an affordable but atmospheric place to stay. The Matjiesvlei Guest Farm was about 5 km off the paved road, but easy to drive to. We stayed in the "oupad se kloof," and while not luxurious was quite comfortable. Very nice outdoor seating area on patio with adjacent braai.
