Please do yourselves a favour and stay away from this Over the Mountain Guest Farm tea garden for we received very poor quality of food and drinks...my husband ordered plunger coffee but received coffee so weak we could actually see through it and it tasted horrible...I ordered rooibos tea but instead I received normal english tea! When we received our food the cinnamon and sugar pancakes were very salty and my husbands griddle cake were like a slamming cake. When we politely complained about the drinks at first they disputed our concern and asked us to rather leave and without making a scene we're leaving in disbelief of what had just happened! Nevertheless we put R100 on the table and just left. We are very disappointed in the manager's attitude towards us as well as the way he handled this complaint. How can this place be awarded a four star rating by treating it's...

There is nothing wrong with the rooms. However, the website states that you have access to a communal kitchen and braai area. When requesting a 2nd wine glass, as there was only 1 available, we were told in no uncertain terms that the communal kitchen was only there as a favor and that we were not entitled to ask for anything additional to what there was made available. If you advertise a communal kitchen, you should have enough of everything so that all guests can use what there is, or rather tell guests to bring their own crockery, cutlery and glassware. Guest relations are always the 1st priority in any establishment. This establishment certainly fell short where this was concerned, as the owner was definitely not very friendly or accommodating. The owners cat also kept coming into our room, so we could never keep the door open, as my husband and kids are highly...

A few weeks ago on our way home on a long roadtrip my parents decided to have a rest stop and checking in at Over The Mountain Guest Farm was an excellent decision. After a long and busy trip the tranquility of the farm was more than welcome and the owners were very kind and helpful.

The location itself was absolutely stunning and serene. Waking up and catching the scent of jasmine on the breeze just added to the peacefulness of the area. Some of the facilities on site were a swimming pool, a trampoline and a tea garden to relax in. The guest farm offered b&b styled rooms with food served from the kitchen and could be enjoyed in the tea garden as well as self-catering rooms. George was located about half an hour away, taking you through the beautiful and winding Outeniqua pass.

All in all, we had a fantastic two nights and would definitely recommend Over The...

Overall experience was very close to zero. We had quite a few rooms booked, but a good walk to the other rooms. Concerns of various animals (for the kids) were also a problem for us (snake and worm in pool and a warning, only upon arrival, of occasional baboons) Advertised as a 3 star guest farm but upon arrival and going through the instructional booklet, it states that they are equivalent to a 3 star. Hence, false advertisement. The separate rooms on their own are at least 2 star but the 6 sleeper is a hot mess. The shower was so dirty we had to clean it ourselves. Anything you want to do, you have to drive at least 30-35 minutes for anything with either George or Outdshoorn being the closest places to do anything in.

A refreshing rustic haven of tranquillity and peace. Beautiful views of the mountain terrain. A friendly & inviting welcome from the lovely host Estel. Sitting in the picturesque tea garden with a landscape of a pretty garden, the chirps & songs from the abundance of beautiful bird life & the stillness give you an inner feeling of relaxation. The freshly baked scones were absolutely delicious, and the homemade condiments were so yummy. A worthy afternoon drive out into the country. A real hidden gem between the Outenique Valley.

Eleven of us arrived at the restaurant half an hour before closing but they cheerfully served us a delicious late afternoon tea. Scones, cream and jam ; cinnamon cakes and pancakes,; chocolate cake, caramel pancakes and bobotie pancakes. Plates were locked cleaned. Beautiful setting at the gateway to Montagu pass, a great stop after a hike/drive in the mountains.
